Training Log 3: Revelations

As we have more newcomers again, I will be holding another training session. It will be the same place as before- the part in Limbo. There will be refreshments as well, so even if you do not wish to spar please feel free to come and observe!

[It's that time again! Lion has his little (now a bit beat up since he keeps using the same space) claimed track of land in Limbo set up- wide spaces for people to pair off, a fold-out table with snacks and chairs for sitting and chatting. And of course himself off to the side with his lance in hand- willing to take all challengers and give tips and advice to anyone that comes to him!

He does though, go seeking someone specific out during all this: Chiron]

My friend, may I speak with you in private for a moment?

[There is no feeling of dread here that's just your imagination!]

((ooc: As usual this is a mixer post, so feel free to toss up starters as desired! I will have one for Lion as well if anyone wants to poke him in specific- but use this as a chance to show off- I mean try out new powers you've gained since last time!))
mementomoritz: good day (good friends)

[...well, at least he didn't agree to anything in writing.] Ooh, I'll let you know when I've moved to broader clinical trials!

It's interesting to talk about mind over matter when we're basically all mind, right now. Or at least all consciousness! At first, that seems like it should suggest we'd be able to just will things to work like we want, but even in life we don't have full control over our minds either- at least, not most of us. The brain does all kinds of things no one asked it to.
mementomoritz: try again? (test results are inconclusive)

Ooh, good question! [She looks thoughtful, giving it due consideration.] I think it's too early to say for sure, just yet. I definitely wouldn't rule it out, though!
mementomoritz: hmmm... (hypothesis)

Oh! [Medic nods, looking surprisingly serious, for her.] Doctor-patient confidentiality is very important. I can promise that I'll keep quiet about it unless it would be vitally necessary to save your life or the lives of others. [A beat.] ...unlives of others.

Hm! All right, then... [Medic steeples her hands in front of her face, looking thoughtful. She doesn't seem alarmed or judgemental at all, simply like someone thinking over an interesting and somewhat complicated puzzle.]

Normally, my first thought would be auditory hallucinations- but we are currently the restless souls of the dead, so in the spirit of fairness I can't immediately dismiss the possibility that you could be cursed or haunted.

[For all the bizarre subject matter, she sounds briskly professional. Treatment is treatment, regardless of whether it's performed on- or to relieve the effects of- ghosts.]

That said, I can try to rule out some of the likelier causes, if you're willing. Do you remember when the symptoms first started, in life?
mementomoritz: hmmm... (hypothesis)

[That raises an eyebrow, although nothing more extreme.] Mental health was never my field, but... that definitely sounds like a possible case of PTSD.

[Clarifying, she adds:] Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. You tend to see it to greater or lesser degrees in people who've been through some kind of highly disturbing event- recurring nightmares, flashbacks, depression, detachment, difficulty with controlling emotions, obsessive guilt or shame, trouble sleeping or concentrating, self-destructive behavior... [She counts off the various symptoms on her fingers, looking up to meet his gaze.]

I couldn't say anything for sure without at least doing a brain scan, to rule out any kind of tumors or lesions, but it would be possible. PTSD wouldn't necessarily cause auditory hallucinations by itself, but sleep deprivation definitely does- and if the stressor was already there, and getting made worse... [She shrugs.]

[She can't be sure. It would be medically irresponsible to make a diagnosis with so little information. But it would fit.]
mementomoritz: i left the bunsen burner on (aw shit)

[Slowly and carefully, giving him plenty of time to see the motion and move away if he wants, she reaches out and puts a hand on one of his.]

You didn't choose this.

[She doesn't understand people. She doesn't know if this is the right thing, the helpful thing to say. She's just knows she's telling the truth, and she has to hope that it's enough.]

Even if that turns out to be the correct diagnosis, it's not your fault any more than it would be if you broke a bone or caught a cough. You aren't a bad person for getting hurt, even if it's the mind and not the body.

I think with things like this, healing is something you work on with other people, a little bit at a time. I'm just glad you let me try.

[Her smile is a little gentler than her usual grin of scientific glee, something softer and smaller.]

I only have the one for now- but if I manage to grow some extra, you'll be the first to know. Hearts are always tricky to make from scratch. [...Medic, sweetheart, please don't ruin the moment.]
mementomoritz: maybe both! (new toys? new friends?)

[This is Medic, she was absolutely being literal.]

[But she ends up bursting into giggles and laughing alongside him, because sometimes it's just... nice, to be able to laugh something off. Let some emotions out.]

[And the face he's making is pretty funny.]
