Training Log 3: Revelations

As we have more newcomers again, I will be holding another training session. It will be the same place as before- the part in Limbo. There will be refreshments as well, so even if you do not wish to spar please feel free to come and observe!

[It's that time again! Lion has his little (now a bit beat up since he keeps using the same space) claimed track of land in Limbo set up- wide spaces for people to pair off, a fold-out table with snacks and chairs for sitting and chatting. And of course himself off to the side with his lance in hand- willing to take all challengers and give tips and advice to anyone that comes to him!

He does though, go seeking someone specific out during all this: Chiron]

My friend, may I speak with you in private for a moment?

[There is no feeling of dread here that's just your imagination!]

((ooc: As usual this is a mixer post, so feel free to toss up starters as desired! I will have one for Lion as well if anyone wants to poke him in specific- but use this as a chance to show off- I mean try out new powers you've gained since last time!))
mementomoritz: leave her out of the yearbook (class photo day)

[Medic laughs happily with her. This seems like a totally normal reaction to her, she's glad to see Wolfsbane is having a good time. Gesturing excitedly, she explains:]

When I heal people, I push... well, life isn't the right word. Let's call it "vitality", a kind of energy. I push vitality into them, and they heal.

So I started experimenting to see if I could also take that vitality away. [OH GOOD, THAT'S NOT A TERRIFYING CONCEPT AT ALL.]

And the answer is yes.

I can reach out and take vitality from Revenants- and then give it to someone else. Sooner or later, you use up the extra vitality and the boost wears off, but... [She grins.] I think if you can hit hard enough, maybe a fight can be over before you need to worry about running out.
emberserker: Laughing to herself, creepy expression. (nope that doesn't look good)

[personal profile] emberserker 2021-02-11 12:43 am (UTC)(link)
That's perfect. Combining that with the new spell I remembered, I'm sure we'll have nothing to worry about!
mementomoritz: MERCY YES (Default)

[personal profile] mementomoritz 2021-02-11 02:49 am (UTC)(link)
Well, statistically there could still be- did you say a new spell? [She was about to be sensible about not tempting fate for maybe half a second there, and then immediately forgot about it as soon as she heard there might be something new to collect data on.] What does it do, can I see it?
emberserker: Slightly unnerving smile. (zero likelihood of anything good)

[personal profile] emberserker 2021-02-11 03:52 am (UTC)(link)
Absolutely. Behold, Fuego Fatua Grita!

[She gives a twisted smile and raises her halberd in the air. Layered circles of runes glow in the air at the tip and follow it when she brings it down, pointed end aimed straight forward at a trash can down the alley.

Fire shoots out in a straight line all the way there.]
mementomoritz: save data? (delete and restart)

[personal profile] mementomoritz 2021-02-11 03:56 am (UTC)(link)
[Medic claps appreciatively.] Ooh, I wonder how hot that gets! [Once there's no longer Actual Fire in the way, she's going to take a look at that trash can to see if it's melted through or just badly scorched.] The range and precision could be really handy, too...
emberserker: Casting something. (strings and things)

[personal profile] emberserker 2021-02-11 03:59 am (UTC)(link)
[Looks like it's at least got a melted hole in it! We don't have the canon "burn down a city block" version of the spell, probably because she also doesn't have an ARMANOX and Purgatory probably isn't literally made of all the world's magic.]

It should be useful when we're planning to keep Revenants back, or to hit the ones that stay out of reach.
mementomoritz: maybe both! (new toys? new friends?)

[personal profile] mementomoritz 2021-02-11 04:07 am (UTC)(link)
[She snaps a quick photo of the results for future reference and ghost superpower research purposes.]

That would be useful- all of my powers have been limited to touch range so far. Sooner or later, we're probably going to need to deal with things that don't do melee combat!

[...what? She understands basic tactics, knowing how to navigate a battlefield is important when you need to get to your patients.]
emberserker: Peaceful smile. (when has this ever happened)

[personal profile] emberserker 2021-02-11 04:10 am (UTC)(link)
That last Underside had one that kept lurking in the fog until it could single out a target to hunt. If those keep showing up, this should at least be of use.
mementomoritz: yes??? (what if science?)

[personal profile] mementomoritz 2021-02-11 04:40 am (UTC)(link)
Ooh, yes, that would be helpful. Hmm, making use of its' environment as a hunting strategy- there are smarter varieties. [She makes a quick note of it. Apparently she's been keeping track of Revenant behavior and techniques.] There were those vocal mimics back in the Limbo underside, too... I wonder what makes some of them more capable of planning than others?

[Snapping her journal shut with a grin, she looks up and meets Wolfsbane's eyes.] I might be able to help with that part, too! Part of how I figured out how to drain vitality was learning to reach out and... sense it, is the closest word I have right now?

I'm still getting the hang of recognizing people, but I can tell when someone- or something- is nearby without even having to look!

[...oh God. One to target and one to fire. They're a whole artillery team between the two of them.]
emberserker: Arrogant glare. (i'm the greatest)

[personal profile] emberserker 2021-02-11 04:53 am (UTC)(link)
That'll be useful for certain. Of course, I can understand why you'd want to be kept on healing duty, but if you're extending to general support, we can craft more formations.
mementomoritz: try again? (test results are inconclusive)

[personal profile] mementomoritz 2021-02-11 05:00 am (UTC)(link)
We do have at least one other healer, so it shouldn't be too risky if one of us is pulling double-duty. I'd definitely need to coordinate with Chiron first, though- it would be pretty bad if we both thought the other one had things covered!

[Things you never want to hear mid-battle: "oh shit, I thought you were on healing duty."]

What kind of formations were you thinking of? [She's genuinely intrigued, it has possibilities.]
emberserker: Slight blush, confident smirk. (fufufu)

[personal profile] emberserker 2021-02-11 05:02 am (UTC)(link)
Keeping you in the back, or the centre if we don't spread too far out, should be at least more feasible and less of a pain than delegating you to a medical tent out of the line of fire. Of course, we'd need that for larger operations, and the lot of us do tend to group up and spread out.
mementomoritz: and life (bubbly about tea)

[personal profile] mementomoritz 2021-02-11 05:19 am (UTC)(link)
That should be workable- I can heal myself, so it's not like taking damage is too big a worry, right?

[She's flipping the journal back open, nodding as she takes notes and draws out a rough chart on a fresh page.]

Maybe if we set up teams in advance? We can't really control who's going to run into what, down in the Underside, but we can make sure that every group has a healer with them- or at least one person with a first aid kit. I've been trying to stockpile supplies, just in case. You never know, after all!
emberserker: Creepy reassurance. (trust me (do not))

[personal profile] emberserker 2021-02-11 05:21 am (UTC)(link)
That would cut down on the injuries, at any rate. Of course, we haven't got many defensive abilities among us.
mementomoritz: hmmm... (hypothesis)

[personal profile] mementomoritz 2021-02-11 05:32 am (UTC)(link)
We really don't... [Tapping her pen thoughtfully.] The closest I can think of is Rei's ice- I know I've seen her use it to make barriers before, but not for very long.

Well, I hear the best defense is a good offense! We've definitely got that covered.
emberserker: Stern look. (this is why you're wrong)

[personal profile] emberserker 2021-02-12 02:10 am (UTC)(link)
That's true enough. So we ought to focus on not being hit in the first place.
