cancry | Training Log 3: Revelations

As we have more newcomers again, I will be holding another training session. It will be the same place as before- the part in Limbo. There will be refreshments as well, so even if you do not wish to spar please feel free to come and observe!

[It's that time again! Lion has his little (now a bit beat up since he keeps using the same space) claimed track of land in Limbo set up- wide spaces for people to pair off, a fold-out table with snacks and chairs for sitting and chatting. And of course himself off to the side with his lance in hand- willing to take all challengers and give tips and advice to anyone that comes to him!

He does though, go seeking someone specific out during all this: Chiron]

My friend, may I speak with you in private for a moment?

[There is no feeling of dread here that's just your imagination!]

((ooc: As usual this is a mixer post, so feel free to toss up starters as desired! I will have one for Lion as well if anyone wants to poke him in specific- but use this as a chance to show off- I mean try out new powers you've gained since last time!))

A moving target....?

[ Not her, right? Even if she's, well, a medic...

Then again, they're here to spar.... ]

Me! [Nope, sorry, your optimism is cute but this is Medic we're talking about here.]

[ WELL THEN ]

You're all right with that?

[ Is it possible to spar with a whip? Yes, that would indicate excellent control of his weapon, but- ]

Mm-hm! [Why wouldn't she be?] I can heal myself, after all, so if you're going to need some sparring practice anyway... well, picking someone who can just regenerate probably isn't a bad plan.

[Well, she's not wrong, exactly...]

[ Monarch looks down at the whip, thinking. She has...something akin to a point, but even if the damage can be undone physically, the fact that it happened.... ]

I don't want to hurt you.

No one can hurt me, if I don't let them.

[Just stated plainly and simply, as though it's fact.]

Not for more than a second or two, anyway.

[ Monarch considers this. Then, his stance shifts, and he starts to look determined. ]

All right.

[ Ready when you are. ]

[Medic cheers:] That's the spirit!

[And then she summons a giant pair of surgical scissors, moving in with a quick snip aimed at the whip itself, wielding them like they're totally normal and not an objectively insane item to be using as a weapon.]

[ Her weapon is -

No, he doesn't have time to be surprised! Monarch jerks the whip up, trying to get it out of range of those blades, then cracks it - aiming more to buy himself time to back up than actually land a hit. ]

[The scissors snap shut on empty air, darting back in as quickly as they lashed out. Instead of backing up when he cracks the whip, like a sensible person, Medic opens the scissor blades wider and holds the sharp edges in front of her as she charges forward.]

[In theory, they'll catch any incoming blows for her- but in practice, it's less about protecting herself and more about putting the pointier end in front.]

[ She's charging?! Monarch stumbles back, trying to calculate on the fly how much distance he can keep between them but still be in range to land a hit. Is it this---

No, better to have more distance. Controlling how far she is from him is the key advantage to a weapon like his. He jumps back, cape fluttering. ]

[Medic snaps the scissors shut, turning the profile of her weapon from "wide" back to "long". Without slowing down from her charge, she flips them point down, jams them into the ground, and leaps.]

[She's essentially using her weapon as a pole to pole vault.]

[A pole vault directly at him, which she's turning into a jump kick in an attempt to plant her foot on this poor kid's face.]

Wha----

[ Okay, that REALLY surprises him. You get a good, clean hit in, Medic - for some reason (though he doesn't remember it), Monarch never sees this sort of thing coming.

Over he falls. ]

[Fortunately, Medic is pretty small, so even with all that momentum behind her it's probably not a very heavy blow.]

[She lands on her feet and stumbles back a couple steps before regaining her balance, stopping next to Monarch.]

Are you okay? If you aren't, I can fix that! [You broke it, you heal it.]

--I'm okay. Probably.

[ Monarch is examining the gloved hand he'd just held to his nose, sprawled down here on the ground. There's a slightly darker splotch, and a small trickle of blood from one nostril.

He shoves his mask up on one side to take a closer look, and then feel the bridge of that nose. ]

Nothing's broken.

Well, that's a good start! [She gently pats his shoulder, sending some healing with the gesture to handle any of the smaller bumps and bruises.]

Tilt your head forward, okay? If your nose is bleeding you want the blood to drain out instead of going back down your throat.

[She might not be the best physical trainer, but at least she knows how to deal with a sports injury.]

[ Monarch nods and does as he's told. And considers his predicament.

Around pinching his nose: ]

That was a good move. I didn't expect you to use something other than the scissors.

[ He is going to get something from this. He has made up his mind to do so. And that means not feeling sorry for, or bad about himself.

Or not focusing on it, anyway. ]

Thanks! [Medic, for her part, doesn't seem disapproving at his performance or smug at her own. Practice is practice.]

It was a good instinct, trying to get more distance between us- a whip definitely seems like a better weapon at range. Maybe you should try to figure out a backup weapon for when you need to fight close up? Or some way to push people farther away...

[ Monarch nods. He figures he'll mostly be fighting monsters... ] Something with an edge might work.

[ ~~later, in limbo: "what's that you have, monarch?" "A KNIFE" "no!!!"~~ ]
