The Heist

They had been investigating for weeks, planning and setting up for what seemed like forever. But now was the time for everything to go into action. One team dressed up and settled into various undercover positions in the casino- including Lion himself over at the slots, in case he needed to call Greta and let her know someone was calling her out. Though hopefully, word of mouth would find her first.

Another at the bank, Mona using her Executor weapon to prove they could break-in at any time. It was all or nothing now- either way Greta was about to learn there were way more Executors than she previously assumed.

That is, if the Executors were right in their assumptions. But after last time who knows what might happen...

Her eyebrow quirks up and she gives the group an amused smirk, but then she dips her head in an understanding nod and begins to lead the group down the corridor with little more fanfare than a "This way."

It seems, briefly, as though they're going to proceed in silence but then she speaks up again.

"Just what sort of quarrel do you have with Greta, anyway?"

Wolfsbane tosses her hair behind her back, walking along. "That demon? She's gotten in our way, that's all. All she wants is her own gratification, and she doesn't care if she has to burn the world to get it, much less take what other people deserve."

Sword nods towards Wolfsbane.

"What she said. This is just her comeuppance."

Miss Phantom just snorts. "You won't hear any argument from me. She's quite the little viper, isn't she?"

Her apparent good cheer pretty heavily contrasts how obviously bitter her words are, but before she can elaborate, she comes to a stop at the head of the corridor, where it branches off into two staircases. She gestures down the one to the left.

"Here. We'll just need to follow this set of stairs down to the bottom, take out the guards there and then getting into the vault will be child's play."

"And that's...which set of stairs, exactly?"

Whether he was being sarcastic or playing dumb in hopes of being underestimated in case things went wrong was anyone's guess.

(It was both.)

Sword can't help but snort a little, because really, Phoenix. He nudges Phoenix's arm, pointing him in the general direction of the stairs.

"The ones on the left. There's others on the right." But, hm. "One of us should stay up here, in case things go south."

It was tactical sarcasm, perhaps the best and most dangerous kind.

"If they're alerted to our presence, no doubt security will be coming from any direction. And the less of us that approach the vault, the better--easier to coordinate a pair than a quartet."

Phoenix paused after saying that, looking briefly confused. That made perfect logical sense to him, but somehow felt wrong to say out loud.

"...You and Wolfsbane should go on ahead. No matter how good my hearing, you will both know the guards' line of sight better than I can. The pair of us will bring up the rear and hold off security should things take a turn."

"Very well." She tosses her hair beind her shoulder and jumps down the stairs, abusing her Executor jumping to land perfectly at the nearest landing in heels. "Come now, we've wasted enough time as it is."

Wolfsbane, you show off. Still, that was a good call from Phoenix – there's three Specters serving as security guards on this lower floor who are all very understandably alarmed to see this girl just yeeting herself down the stairs like that – startled enough to hesitate before confronting her.

What's your approach?

She puts out a hand and shoots a few shards of ice one after the other, aiming at legs or arms to take them down. (Really, trying something fatal would just be a pain for everyone.) Anything visible past there?

Reassuring to know that Wolfsbane refrains from murder when it's convenient. I'm truly filled with confidence.

Anyway, with the guards incapacitated, it's a clean shot all the way down the hall!

... Or it would be if not for the wall of bright red lasers cutting off the path. Hm.

"What the fuck are those?"

Sword looks up from where he was tying the guards up with their own jackets to stare at the lasers.

[emberserker]

"It's a security laser array, like they'd have in museums and the like. Generally, they're meant to alert more guards should someone break in... of course, knowing this place's logic, we might end up with the fatal sort instead." She frowns and stares at the array, trying to find a clean path through.

[swordofajerk]

"I don't know what those are," he grumbles. "Can we reflect them back so we can walk through? Or is there a way to shut them off?"

[emberserker]

"I'd suspect central control might have a way to, or some of the guards, though I doubt they'd co-operate. Reflecting them back might work, but it's not likely -- the alarm happens when the laser's path is interrupted."

As she says this, she starts walking forward to inspect them.

While she's doing that, Sword is gonna look for a control or power panel on this side of the lasers.

Looking at the lasers themselves, they're clustered close enough together that none of the Executors would be able to get through, even with a whole lot of bending and stretching and other Mission Impossible nonsense.

Thankfully though, Sword's investigation of the wall reveals a small panel set into the wall that only contains a single keyhole.

"Over here." Sword beckons Wolfsbane over, looking at the keyhole more closely. Does it maybe look like that round thing they got from the guard?

It's the right shape and size, at the very least.

[swordofajerk]

Perfect.

"You have that round thing from earlier, right?" He gestures to the keyhole.

[emberserker]

"What do you take me for?" She pulls it out and slides the key(?) in. "Let's see if this does anything."

[cancrymods]

The panel hangs for a moment but then gives a cheery "boop!" and turns green.

The lasers recede back into the walls, making it safe to progress.

[swordofajerk]

Sword frowns as the lasers slide back, gesturing for Wolfsbane to go first. If shit hits the fan, he wants to be able to grab her and haul ass quickly.

"That...seems a bit too convenient."

[emberserker]

She rolls her eyes and walks forward, keeping an eye out for any other traps or impediments.

"They've probably got all kinds of things left in the way. I do wonder how the others are doing back there."

[swordofajerk]

"No news is--"

It's at this point that Sword's phone goes off. He stops to answer it, stares at it in anger, and then shuts it off and shoves it in his pocket.

"We have to hurry. That was Achilles, they found the money and should be transferring it, except he texted that to everyone. Including Ruin and Lion."
