[So. Sword going at it with a training dummy is not that uncommon. In the month or so he's been here, he's pretty much seen beating the shit out of a dummy for a few hours a day.

This is a bit Much, though. He's been at it since breakfast, stopped for a quick lunch, and went right back to training. It's now nearly dinner, and he hasn't stopped since.

[Bold of you to assume that people caring about what she says has ever stopped Medic from talking, Sword.] You don't think it's interesting to know how all that training works? [She peers at him thoughtfully, expression scrutinizing.] I wonder if you even can build muscle, now that we're dead- we don't age, but do we change in other ways?

It's going to be interesting finding out!

I don't remember ever gaining much muscle in life.

[He remembers training, but never getting very muscular despite that.]

Hmm... maybe you were focused more on speed and flexibility? After all, big muscles don't do you any good if you're too slow and stiff to land a hit!

[Medic is tiny and still hits alarmingly hard, so it's not like she can judge.]

...that might be it. It sounds right, anyway.

It's a legitimate strategy! Especially since most of the stronger Revenants we've encounter seem to be pretty large... although there's no way to know if that trend is going to continue, of course! It's very exciting.

[Yes, she is still compiling a Revenant bestiary. This probably cannot be prevented.]

Even if they're smaller and quicker, going more for speed will help. I can keep up with them.

[She nods thoughtfully. Combat strategy isn't really her field, but she understands the concept well enough.] I guess it would have to be either that or using an attack that can cover a wide area, if they're quick- and we don't exactly get to pick our powers, so we can't just decide to have those.

It's interesting how we all have such different abilities, isn't it? I wonder if it says something about us, as people...

Why would it? We're not the same person, so obviously we have different powers.

[mementomoritz]

But we are both Executors.

[She gestures excitedly with her hands as she talks.]

Despite all differences in age, gender, personality, or species, all of us share a basic powerset of physical abilities enhanced beyond the standard human norm, transformation, and weapon summoning. We also all ended up with a mark. But everyone's mark is different, everyone's weapon is different, and our transformed outfits don't follow any kind of uniform aesthetic.

Why is that?

If our powers were just meant to help us be Executors, why wouldn't they be standardized- something designed specifically to be useful for doing an Executor's job?

I don't know, and I don't care. Why does it matter?

[mementomoritz]

[She blinks, looking surprised.] Don't you want to know more about your own powers?

Strength, or skill, or control... I don't think we can really get any of those out of something we don't fully understand.

If it's important, I'll figure it out. If it's not, it's just a waste of energy.

[mementomoritz]

How are you going to know if something is important or not if you don't know anything about it? [Oddly, she doesn't sound dismissive or disapproving. Her tone and bearing is genuinely curious.]

Because if it was important, it would have come before now and it wouldn't be a hypothetical.

But for all we know, it could have been useful all this time and we just never recognized the opportunities, because we didn't know enough to look for them.

Why settle for how things are when they could be better?

[swordofajerk]

If we don't know enough to look for them, how are we going to find them?

[mementomoritz]

And that's why we should learn about them! So we know. [She nods, crossing her arms triumphantly.]

Also, I just like knowing things. It makes unlife interesting! [...At least she's self-aware enough to acknowledge it?]

[Confused headtilt.] Which part? I know what I mean, but I've heard I'm bad at explaining it before.

This entire conversation. You want to waste time trying to learn about things that you don't even know exist. You're chasing ghosts, if that.

Well, we're dead. [Stated very matter-of-factly.] What should ghosts do with their time, if they're not chasing each other?

Not chase more ghosts. It's a waste.
