Night Patrol

Iris wakes up on the train.

Being dead and having total amnesia is a lot of nothing to process, so she stays on the train for a while. The prospect of getting off at the first stop and just exploring at random is daunting, so she stays on the train as it makes a full revolution around Limbo. When it's clear that the train isn't stopping anywhere else, she gathers her courage, and steps out into the station.

Rather than seeking out any specific services or businesses, Iris's first instinct is to just wander the streets. She doesn't know why that feels right, nor does she know what she's looking for, but quietly going down random streets and alleyways feels more comfortable than barging in somewhere to ask big existential questions to complete strangers. There's just too much she doesn't know - why is she here? Are these other people also dead? Is there something she's supposed to be doing?

None of the answers are revealing themselves from just walking around the city at random, but there's something just a little bit comforting about it. Moving feels better than staying still, and if she needs to be doing something else, hopefully it will make itself apparent soon. Until then, Iris wanders, sometimes stopping to look at the few people who immediately stand out from the crowds - Executors, she would eventually learn - but never approaching them directly. She'll work up to that.

Eventually.

[ Rei averts her gaze with absolutely crystal-clear discomfort. ]

... I don't know for sure. But I know that people who are stuck here for long enough without moving on end up becoming one eventually. Maybe waking up like you have will stave it off a little bit longer, but if you just stay here without moving on then I think it's inevitable. We're not meant to be here forever.

[ She looks back at Iris, still clearly uneasy but more willing to meet her gaze. ]

I... um. I don't want you to feel like you don't have a choice in this. No matter what, you don't have to become an Executor if you really don't want to.

That's fine by me. I don't want anyone to feel like they need to put themselves in danger.

[ Her smile is a little shaky. ]

Are you definitely sure? If you are, then all I have to do is establish the contract and you'll be one of us.

Of course not. You can take things as slowly as you need to – and we'll all be here to help you whenever you need it.

[ Maybe it's a bit presumptuous of her to speak on behalf of the other Executors like that... but she doesn't think they'd disagree.

With that, she slowly extends her hand. ]

Just... hold still for a second.

[ The symbol etched into her wrist glows bright, turning from black to a whiteish gold. For a moment, the world seems to hold its breath before everything snaps back to normal with a flash of gold light.

Well, normal except for one thing – Iris will find she has a unique marking somewhere on her skin now, marking her as an Executor. And now that she's become an Executor, this will trigger Iris's very first Memoria Regain! On top of this, you will also get her starter power that she will have at default as an Executor as well as one free Idea that you may use however you like. For power regains, please submit a comment on the power regain page with this comment linked as the qualifying thread. Do the same at the Memoria page for your Memoria regain! ]

You did?

[ Rei raises her eyebrows a little, but somehow... she doesn't sound surprised in the least. ]

It seems like... that's normal for Executors, for some reason.

Really?

[ Now that's interesting. ]

I don't think anybody else has remembered their name yet... how strange.

Really...? Well, it doesn't really matter much to me either way, so long as you're happy to answer to it.

[ Communication is going to be important if they're going to be fighting giant monsters together on the reg, after all. ]
