With the dragon of greed thoroughly slain, the Executors are at last free to escape the sensory hell of the Avaritia Underside and descend to the next Layer. There's still sound and chatter, of course, but compared to where you've been spending all your time until now. Welcome to Superbia. And make yourself comfortable... because now that you've arrived, the stairs that guided you down here have disappeared and you won't be leaving any time soon. Feel free to use this arrival log to chronicle your initial misadventures in the Pride Layer of Purgatory. Oh, right! [Medic pauses a moment, heals her injured hand, and rummages in one pocket until she finds a tissue to wipe off the pneuma with. Can't just leave that there, it's unsanitary.]

I wanted an excuse to go investigate the nurse's office, so I stabbed myself with a pencil when no one was looking!

[Oh, well that's fine- WAIT NO IT'S NOT????]

[ she knows what Medic is like, but boy is it a struggle to react calmly to that—

Mona takes a breath, lets it out slowly, and then clasps Medic's now-healed hand between both of her own gloved hands. there's not a lot of difference between them in terms of height, but she ducks her head just a little anyway, to meet Medic's eye level. with a very solemn tone and a faintly sad expression: ]

Next time, [ because there will be a next time ] you can just say that you have a very bad headache, and you need to go to the nurse's office. Please don't hurt yourself for something so small.

[Medic blinks, looking confused. It's not that she doesn't enjoy holding hands with Mona or anything, but this got really solemn all of a sudden and she's entirely clueless as to why.] ...Okay, I guess I could do that? A provably visible injury seemed faster, though.

Besides, it's not like I was actually hurt- nothing can hurt me if I don't let it!

[She tilts her hand to show the perfectly whole, uninjured skin where the cut was, smiling brightly.]

See? I'm fine now!

[ Medic's cavalier attitude doesn't get a bad reaction out of Mona, but it doesn't have any impact on her own sadness. she persists: ]

I know. I know you'll heal, but... [ she squeezes Medic's hand. ] It should still matter. It matters to me if you get hurt, even if you heal it right away. If someone else hurt you, I would be angry with them, because they wanted to hurt you.

[ her nerves seem to finally get the better of her; although she doesn't let go yet, she eases off a little, starting to look uncertain, wondering if she's overstepped. ] Does that... make sense? It's not about the outcome... It's that you're more important than that.

[Medic is still confused, but also kind of touched.] ...Sort of?

I can understand not wanting someone to try and hurt other people, in case they actually succeed- but it doesn't bother me when I get injured, because I know it can't really hurt me. It's... a little like reading a scary book, maybe? The monsters on the page aren't real, so it's not very frightening.

...I think I'd be upset if something bad happened to you, though. I can understand that.
