Once he's done the obligatory staring, confusion, worry, and reminder to himself to Keep Moving Forward, Monarch goes to the student council office. The only leads he's got right now are that the Student Council President wants the school festival to happen and the principal doesn't, but gave in - and then, because of the loop, there wasn't a festival.

PERHAPS THERE IS A CONNECTION.

The first thing Monarch will notice when he slides the door open is that the room is – mostly – empty. It looks as though student council duties have been dealt with for the day and its members have dispersed to handle smaller tasks among themselves.

The second is that there's a girl stood at the open window, staring out across the school grounds. Her pale hair is pulled up into whip-tight twintails that sway softly in the breeze and for a long moment she seems so lost in her thoughts that she doesn't even notice his presence.

Eventually, though, she seems to register that someone has come into the room and she glances over her shoulder at him before giving a little "oh" of surprise and turning around.

She smiles.

"Welcome to the Student Council room! Is there something you need help with?"

"Ah, yes...."

But Monarch can't very well say that he is here to uncover clues about this Layer of Purgatory being trapped in a time loop. So he thinks about things that worked in Avaritia and decides to try a variation.

"I'm...new, and I heard about the festival. Is there any way I can help?"

He regrets this story as soon as it comes out, because now he has to pretend to be the sort of person who enjoys festivals (and he has no idea how to do that), but it's for the sake of everyone trapped in Purgatory! For them, Monarch will attempt...

to feign...

extroversion...

Her smile immediately upgrades to beaming and she hurries over from the window and to Monarch.

"You'd really like to help? That's wonderful! I want to make this event the biggest and best we've ever had, so the more volunteers we have, the better!"

So extroverted... it's like looking into the sun...

"Have you had any experience helping with events like this before?"

...She's this enthusiastic about the event? Then, this must be the President...

.....and what's more, Monarch thinks he knows.....how she.....manages to get her way against people even like the Principal.....

"Ah, no--" he stammers, before he can help himself, but recovers with a "That's why....."

A boy who wants to learn how to have a happy and fulfilling school life. This could have been Monarch, in this circumstance, if he hadn't had a more important mission to worry about. So...maybe it will work?

Somehow that makes her smile even brighter. I–it's a little painful to look at...

"Oh, that's wonderful! So this would be your very first time at a school festival!" She plants her hands on her hips and puffs out her chest, all confidence and light hearted importance. "Then, I promise we'll do everything we can as the student council to make this the best school festival yet!"

You kind of get the feeling that was going to be her M.O. regardless.

"What kind of things are you good at? Or– what kind of things would you like to try helping with?"

Things? What kind of things? What kind of things happen at a school festival, he has general knowledge but no specific memories (does that mean he wasn't the kind of person, in life, to help with the festival), uh, um - think!

"I'm all right with my hands," he admits; moving his body had felt good with soccer. "And...making schedules...."

He can't think of the most strategic possible place to position himself with this little time to think. He should have planned this out.

Monarch looks at the floor. "Wherever you need me."

"Schedules would be perfect! It's important to keep everybody organized for big events like this."

She gives a little 'hmmm' to herself as she thinks all this over.

"Would you like to come back tomorrow when the others are all here? Then I can introduce you and we can plan out where you'd help!"

Monarch nods. Unless the loops are of varying lengths, that shouldn't prove difficult. "The others - on the student council?"

Or maybe there are other kids like "him" who are helping because they want to. The soccer club had said this was an unusual event for the school....The more he can learn about everyone who wants it to happen, the better.

And maybe see about people who don't.

"That's right! We have a lot of volunteers but since we're the ones heading things right now, I thought it'd be nice if we made sure we got to know everyone who's helping out. After all, you're the ones doing a lot of the work here, so I want everyone to know we're grateful!"

It sounds like she's laying it on thick, but you really get the vibe that she's just so painfully, sincerely Like This.

"Is there anybody else you know who's interested in volunteering?"

Anybody else - Monarch doesn't know - Oh!

Oh, this is an opportunity, isn't it? But which Executors should he mention? He doesn't want to put someone on the spot again like he did with Ruin-san.

"Possibly," he admits. "I can ask...I'll know tomorrow."

That makes sense for a new kid, right? A new kid who is trying to get to know people? Why would she even ask.....Is she just that excited about the festival?

"That's wonderful! I really appreciate the help, um..."

There's a pause and then she gives a little laugh. It's a very pretty-sounding laugh.

"We didn't introduce ourselves, did we? I'm the student council president here. Everyone calls me Miss President!"

They did skip that step, didn't they? Monarch rushed ahead because he was so intent on the mission. At least he doesn't seem to have impacted his cover in so doing.

"Nice to meet you." Monarch bows, as is proper. "I'm Monarch. I'm in your care."
