If anyone else felt that, don't be alarmed. We spoke to the student council president, and I believe Etoile and myself now possess this layer's Authority.

We were able to discern that the previous president was the Authority before we arrived, and presumably through this place's stagnation became...well. We'll likely meet her in the underside, let me leave it at that.

It was a complicated situation, but I believe both this layer and the rest of us will be able to move on very soon. Make sure you are all prepared.

I think so. I don't feel unusual, and I think Etoile is fine as far as I can tell.

It seems like there's still lots about Purgatory that we need to learn. I wish I'd known this sooner... it could have really changed our approach in the last two Layers. Of course with Esme and Greta, I don't think things could have gone any better than they did...

We did the best we were able to with them. Sword's right--this won't always work. But I do think we should try to keep the option in mind for our approach regardless.

Yes. I want us to protect ourselves when we have to but if we can move through Purgatory peacefully, that'll be better for us and everybody else.

How much trouble do you think we're going to have in the Underside now, though?

I can't say for sure it will be worse than what we've seen to date, but neither can I say it will be all that much better. Until we get there, I can't begin to guess.

It's probably a bit much to hope that we might have an easier time of things in the Underside, too. [ says claire, knowing exactly what's going on in the underside ] We'll have to make sure Etoile and the other who haven't explored one before know what to expect.

Agreed. We'll need to exercise caution and try to split into groups for everyone's safety.
