time ticks on

TRACING A PATH
True to her word, following the fight in the Luxuria Underside, Lana shows the Executors where they can travel further down into Purgatory. From the now familiar set of stairs, though, comes something unexpected – a cold, damp breeze that chills you to the bone and makes you feel oddly sleepy.

The sense of unease this generates is amplified by the reaction of the accompanying Executors – Rei seems particularly susceptable to the drowsiness inducing effect and while Birdie doesn't seem to be affected, she's nevertheless oddly quiet and a little brooding, like she has something on her mind.

Either way, it seems wise to prepare for whatever may lay ahead before proceeding. Take your time to spar, train or whatever you need to do before proceeding to the next Layer...

Hi, Chiron! Have you seen the remote anywhere?

[Meanwhile, poor Medic is just rummaging around in the couch cushions of the Executor home, trying to find their TV remote. She got interrupted by memory-related emotional drama in the middle of watching the Death Note musical a good three layers ago and she hasn't had time to get back to it since.]

[Odds are, she's not going to finish it today, either. But she doesn't know that yet.]

[It's strange, the way he suddenly wants to explode at her, as though such an innocuous thing would be worth the effort. The temperature in the room doesn't literally drop, and Medic is the most unlikely to notice any change in The Vibes in the air, but rest assure: those are some rancid-ass vibes to anyone else.

He takes a breath, clenches his teeth. Hisses it out slow.]

I have not been in much mood to watch. [Each word feels like a deliberate pick, slow and precise.] I would hardly know.
mementomoritz: and life (bubbly about tea)

[Medic is, indeed, completely oblivious to the rough emotional weather brewing several feet away from her. She's not even looking in his direction, currently occupied with trying to look underneath the couch.]

There isn't much on, anyway... Some of the stations are still showing reruns of Esme's stuff! I have a few good DVDs from the library if you want any recommendations, though.

You haven't anything better to do? All the time in the whole of this afterlife, and you'd prefer to click through channels? [He scoffs. Which is, at least, a lot better than exploding.] And what is down here that you'd even care to watch? Oh, don't tell me they sell recorded vivisections here.

Ooh, I wish! [As if Invidia's idol culture didn't have enough problems, now she's getting ideas.]

I've been too busy to watch any of these for a while, so I thought I'd take the time before we go to the next layer. It's interesting to see what the Specters come up with!

They're mindless ghosts who play at being people. They come up with what people might. [A thoughtless flick of his fingers.] Hardly interesting.

But people come up with so many things!

[As always, one of the best and worst things about Medic is her deep and absolutely sincere love of the world. Humanity has a lot of problems- in her opinion, the biggest one is the badly-designed joints, especially the knees- but she still takes a genuine delight in seeing other minds at work.]

[Especially when she can open up a skull or two and take a look at them directly.]

They aren't just mindlessly recreating things they were familiar with when they were alive, they're actually making new works of fiction. New ideas! Even in a semi-conscious state, they're still creating- aren't the implications for how the human mind functions fascinating?

[He doesn't even remotely try to hold back his sneer.] No, not particularly.

When they go to the other side, become someone wholly new, all that they have created, all the potential, will be lost. They may become a sniveling simpleton beyond the confines of this place. What does it matter?
