Limbo Underside Log
It's easy to lose track of time in Purgatory, but believe it or not, just over a month has passed since the initial wave of awakenings took place. There's been more since then, of course, with new Executors popping up left and right but other than that, things are mostly quiet. Until one day, you all wake up to find the fountain looks kind of... busted. Not broken precisely but something has impacted the bottom of the fountain from below, hard enough to jar it slightly out of place... and those of you who joined in the first jaunt down into Limbo's Underside can probably guess what was responsible. This seems to spook Rei. She spends most of the morning afterwards mulling this over before eventually speaking up to the group; "We can't put this off any longer... tomorrow, I think we need to go down there and fight." You have a day to prepare and ready yourselves... And then you descend into Limbo's Underside.
![]() Just as before, when Rei returns the sword to its place atop the fountain, the mechanism chugs to life and groans its way to the side, revealing the staircase underneath. Despite the battering it took, things seem to be working just fine. The steep staircase vanishes down into the darkness and as you follow it, it feels for a moment as though you're wandering blindly into the unknown... and then quite suddenly, before you're more than a few steps down the staircase, Limbo's Underside pops into view. While Limbo itself is mostly functional if a bit odd, the Underside is... a lot. The geography of the place is twisted and doubles back on itself in places and seems to warp in your vision as you observe it. From your bird's eye view as you descend the stairs, you can see that the general shape of the place mirrors that of the town above, with many of the same general landmarks. For example;
The coffee bar serves the same drink, no matter your order – a pitch black sludge that makes you feel violently ill when consumed. The pastries are fine, though. The hotel is even more maze-like than it was previously. Your hotel key won't work here. The windows won't break. The doors won't open. Wasn't the exit around this corner? What about the next? How many floors have you climbed again? How long have you been in here, anyway? The conbini is now a perfectly normal and functional convenience store. Somehow this is even more upsetting than having it become more weird. ... Among other oddities. You thought Limbo was already weird? That was baby shit. At least that horrible feeling of dizzy disorientation from last time doesn't seem to take hold again, but the ground is very much still moving around a bit. Mind your step! It goes without saying, of course, that the place is swimming with Revenants, too. No sight of the big punchy lad who had at you the first time around, but he's sure to be around. All you can do now is explore, investigate and do your duty as Executors. Good luck. ![]()

Time to get some revenge.]
You hear for a rematch, you pathetic, malformed orangutan?
[Despite the fact that they don't have a face, Ariel and Mona get the sense that Kingslayer's smile is sharp enough to cut glass.]
THEN I'D BE HAPPY TO OBLIGE!
[The red lightning of their Executor form crackling all around them, Kingslayer dashes towards the Lucretius, cleaving through the air with a massive swing meant to damage it and get its attention away from Ariel and Mona.]
Let's go!

[Let's go, you say? Oh, Ariel's already going, just sort of rushing right past Kingslayer and running up to Lucretius, sword at the ready as she slashes without even looking, not caring that she's way up close, already swinging her sword again, just trying to bring this thing down.
Wildly swinging your sword is how you do it, right?
...Sorry, what's this "dodging" you speak of? Only attack.]

[ at the sight of the Revenant that comes crashing into their path, Mona's first intention is to run. they should get help from the others, she thinks, directed by her memories of Saint-Germain's lessons in how to keep herself safe and handle situations with caution. before she can say that, though — Kingslayer and Ariel are already rushing into battle. she can't leave them behind.
Lucretius is much too big for her to put it in stasis, and it seems like it would be a bad move to lock one of its arms without a plan. five minutes is a long time to wait for that ability to be usable again in a fight like this. but unlike the other two, Mona doesn't want to simply charge in; all three of them putting themselves in danger is too great a risk.
there's nothing else she can do. for now, she switches her ranseur to its extended Minute Forme, and hangs back to see what Lucretius does. ]
Be careful, you two...!

Angered by the attack, Lucretius roars again and rears back on its legs so it can swing both arms forward. With a horrible crunching impact, it lands a direct blow on Kingslayer, sending them flying back. It also lands a glancing blow on Ariel.

Pain.
Now that's something they haven't felt for a bit. Not the every day pain that came with training or hard work, but the singing burn that sent not-adrenaline coursing through Kingslayer's not-veins, the pain that reminded them what steel felt like, both in their hands and in their gut.
When Kingslayer was "alive," they lived for combat. It was literally their only purpose, to fight and fight and fight until they won.
Just because they were dead and without purpose didn't erase that core tenet of their existence.
Kingslayer rolls to their feet. They'd spit out some of that weird glitter, but they don't have a mouth, so unfortunately they can't do that and look like a badass.
Oh well.
What they can do, however, is plan.]
Ariel! Mona! Focus on disorienting this thing, getting it off balance—if it keeps hitting us like that, you'll go down and go down hard. Taking it head-on is going to get you killed again, we need to confuse it first. Hit and run!
Once it's dazed and distracted, I'll hit it with everything I've got to knock it down, and Mona will lock it up to make sure it stays down for a few moments. Then go in for the kill!
GOT THAT? THEN FOLLOW MY LEAD! [Their voice bellows across the battlefield with the clarity of a bell; it's the yell of a commander rather than the scream of a Berserker.
Kingslayer charges Lucretius to add more force to their blows, then hits it with a flurry of fast strikes, wild strikes meant more to disorient and defend than to damage.]

But then Kingslayer calls out and she blinks, sword drawing back a little.]
Huh? [There's an almost comical pause for a second.] No way, I can--
[...Geeeeeeez, what's with this plan all of a sudden?]
Ah, fine, fine! I got it! This better work!
[So rather than going back to just slashing, as she was doing, Ariel switches gears. She'll jump a little and start dashing around Lucretius, aiming to distract it. Stopping mid-dash to hit it once - not at full strength, but just to get its attention - before dashing away, trying to dodge whatever blow comes her way.]

Right...!
[ she doesn't want anyone to get hurt, and her only memories are lessons about prioritising safety, but as she is, Mona's capacity for self-preservation is fledgling. there's no fear or hesitation that precedes her joining Ariel and Kingslayer in the fray. she closes the distance she'd left and takes the opposite side to Ariel, aiming to slash Lucretius with the ranseur's point at its maximum range and then continue running past it. ]

And it certainly doesn't seem happy about that. With nowhere to go but through the Executors, Lucretius rears back on those tiny legs with a shriek of anger and then charges on right through them. All three take one blow's worth of damage from the stampede.
But there's no time to lick your wounds – the Revenant's trying to get away! And if you look closely as you watch it retreating, you'll see something sticking out of its back that you didn't see before. It looks like a... sword, perhaps?
Who knows! The only way you'll find out is if you manage to catch it!
durability 3/5, mana burst 1/2
[Kingslayer tumbles back as Lucretius bulldozes through the party. They'd be impressed by its strength if it weren't for its cowardice. Growling like a feral animal as black glitter leaks from the cracks in their armor, Kingslayer sways to their feet.
It was time to end this farce.
A storm of red lightning crackles around Kingslayer as they activate Mana Burst, streaks of crimson energy lashing out at their surroundings. Using their natural Executor mobility and the jet propulsion of Mana Burst, they spring forward, rocketing towards Lucretius through the air.]
no subject
You're not getting away that easily!
[Ariel's moving already, trying to catch up to it... and catch it pretty literally, hoping to leap and land on Lucretius. Whether or not this works out for her - jury's leaning no because why would dying change anything - she's going to swing her sword once, and then again... When in doubt, attack, attack, attack!
Well, only twice, but you get the picture.]
no subject
Kingslayer's plan was for Mona to use her Chronolock once Lucretius was knocked down, but — but, it's trying to run, and that's the one thing she can help best with. there's no guarantee it'll stop even if the other two hit it hard enough, nor does she have time to ask, or think too long about it. Mona reaches out her hand and locks one of Lucretius' legs in place, calling out to the others: ]
I froze it...!
no subject
With the final blow, Lucretius suddenly bursts apart into a fine mist – the same colour and shine as the pneuma that leaks from the wounds of Executors. The mist disappears into the air almost too quick to get a good look at it and then something clatters to the ground.
It's the sword that was jutting out of its back.
Pick it up?
no subject
[Kingslayer turns on Ariel, their impassive faceplate intimidating as they're briefly covered in pneuma. Their expression is literally unreadable. Are they angry that their fellow Executor stole the glory? Or-]
Nice job!
[They offer Ariel a fistbump, and everyone present gets the sense that Kingslayer is grinning.
After offering Ariel congratulations, they immediately turn and pull of the sword, pulling it out of the Revenant's back and testing its weight with one hand.]
no subject
...oh!
Oh, alright. Her expression goes into a slightly sheepish smile, as she returns the fistbump.]
No problem! Not for the three of us, right~?
[Teamwork makes the dream work!
She looks over at that sword, though, just letting Kingslayer do their thing.]
...Guess someone stuck that in there, or something.
