Well that all sure... uh, happened!

Despite the initial hostility, you've gotten a lot of important information to chew over: Esme, the one who holds Authority over Invidia has made it very clear that she opposes the Executors and their intended goal of repairing the Cogs of Renewal at the bottom of Purgatory. And thanks to that, and Esme's degree of control over Invidia, the gang are stuck here until they can find a way to bypass Esme and continue descending the layers of Purgatory.

Surely, everyone will be on the same page about how to handle that!

Either way, with discussions with Esme wrapped up and the Executors on their way, now's a good time to put your heads together and see if you can't work out where to proceed from here.

Oh, no, not at all actually. It is a bit more of... personal research. An attempt to understand my title a touch better.

By studying myths? I suppose being called "Beast," such things must have been important to you.

I... mayhaps? I’m not so sure, but I suppose it’s not out of the realm of possibility.

In truth these don’t read much like “myths” to me - from the perspective of my world, they feel more like historical or even modern occurrences.

Understandable, I suppose; I don't know precisely whether my world had anything of the like, but we did have mages, so I don't see why not. Besides, we know we must all be from different places.

It did, did it? Well, we have that in common at least.

It was the first thing I remembered: a tournament for mages, where the winner controls the bulk of the world's magic. No one had succeeded in a thousand years, but I surely thought it was important. Every mage did.

...sounds like an incredibly bad idea.

How so? It's just been sitting there since the seven sages sealed it off. The most we can do in day-to-day life is the smallest hint of anything; even our basic Executor abilities would be a miracle. But a successful Princeps Mage could do anything. Restore magic to the world, or control it all themselves like a god. You could do whatever you wanted.

"Control it like a god" is precisely why it's a bad idea. Something like that isn't the sort of power any one person or group should wield, particularly if they had to fight others to get it. There is too much room for it to be used for the wrong reasons by the wrong people, or for that very power to destroy them from within.

It sounds like something that could only lead to ruin... or a dictatorship.
