It comes to you suddenly, at the end of an unravelling thread of thought. A sudden, piercing sense of wrongness stops you in your tracks and sends you tumbling through rapidfire questions that you realize you have no answer for. How long have you been here? How long have you been doing the same things, over and over, blindly going through the motions of a routine? Just who are you, anyway?

Questions beget more questions and answers prove illusive until you arrive at the only things you know for certain: the first is that this place is Purgatory.

The second is that you're here because you're dead.

Oddly, this doesn't feel like a surprise of any sort. You don't remember how or why it happened, but it did and that's that. It feels rather as though you've been slapped awake and everything around you has come into sharp focus. You're in Limbo, where you've been wandering since you arrived here in Purgatory alongside all the other mindless souls who are acting out what little they remember of their original lives.

Still lingering is that horrible sense of something being terribly wrong. It hasn't dissipated with your realization of the truth – if anything, it's intensified. There's no way to tell what it is, but there's something going on here.

Maybe you should investigate – or at least see if there's anyone else here who's had the same realization as you...

The thing is... an Executor's power is really meant to be shared. Rather than working alone, it's something we're supposed to do as a group. So, if you're willing to agree... then all I'd have to do is grant you that power.

[Judging by her expression, this legitimately had not occurred to her as an option. She was too excited by the possibility of doing afterlife science to wait until she had an actual notebook to write stuff down.]

How do you know this, if you don't mind my asking? As I've gotten the impression you've done this all alone this while with no groups to share with. Or is it merely...inherent knowledge? Like us knowing this is Purgatory. Or that we are among the deceased.

Yes, something like that. It was one of the only things I knew when I woke up here. I didn't remember anything else about myself... but I knew that I was an Executor and what that means. It was the only thing I had left to guide me while I was here.

Strange that you awoke with such knowledge and we did not. Hm... But it does seem we are similarly bereft of guidance.

...And there is something deeply wrong with this place, though I know not what it is save for your explanation of it. Surely we must help to make things right if for no other reason than to fix that awful feeling.

So I suppose...if you've need of me, I hardly seem to have much better to do. We woke for a reason, surely.

Seal merely nods at Rei to signify their agreement, standing tall. For perhaps the first time since they awoke, they're perfectly confident of this singular choice. ]

I really don't feel like I'm fit to be commanding anyone. But it's looking like I don't have much of a choice in the matter.

[ unlike the others, she doesn't seem as confident. she wavers, hesitates. does everyone else have something they want...? something they feel like they have to do? she doesn't have that. it feels like maybe it was a mistake that she "woke up" at all. but she is awake now, and she can't go back to that. if she has to make a choice, then— ]

I don't know... but I don't want to stay behind and leave everyone else to face it. So...

[ the nod she gives is slow and uncertain — and then she nods again, resolute. ]

You shouldn't feel obligated or pressured if you aren't comfortable with the idea of it all. Though it seems that you would otherwise be stuck up here with these other sleepy souls. It hardly seems like a life--if you'll forgive the term.

[Something about helping the passage of the dead rings as Important to him, though if he tries to grasp it, the idea flits away like motes in sunlight. But what he does know is this:]

If not for you, Miss Rei, I likely would have died... or redied? To that beast down there. And if I hadn't found the key, then none of the others would have been in danger in the first place.

[So he walks over, looming huge, then goes to one knee- seems Kingslayer isn't the only one with some pre-packaged idea of how this works- though that might also be the head damage.]

So it only seems fitting that I make amends for it, and repay my debt.

[Hope has been watching from the shadows, silently debating whether or not he wants to team up with these people. The idea of working with others has him hesitant, but what else would he do? Go back to wandering the streets as little more than a Spectre, awakened but aimless?

No. He needs a goal, something to work towards and accomplish.

He steps out of the shadows and into the crowd surrounding Rei, silently giving his consent with a nod.]

[The Relic slipped in at some point to listen to all this. I promise she was there the whole time.

And she knows, already, that she CAN'T walk away here. It's not a moral stand or anything noble like that. The idea of having a chance to save people and not taking it just...makes her brain itch. Easier to go along with it.]

If something made a mess of the afterlife, I guess SOMEONE has to fix it. And I guess I'll go along to make sure you don't make a mess of everything while you're trying.

[Doesn't mean she can't be a sarcastic ass about it, though.]

CONTRACT ESTABLISHED

Alright. If you're all really sure, then... [ Rei takes a big, shaky breath and nods to herself. ] Okay. We'll establish the contract.

[ After one more moment of hesitation, Rei holds out her right hand, palm up – revealing a symbol etched into the skin on her wrist that wasn't visible before. It starts to glow with an eerie golden light that washes over the whole coffee shop. The world seems to chug to a halt, if only for a second – and then after a flash of light, everything returns to normal. You feel completely different. You feel no different at all. A quick examination of your body may reveal a marking on you now, a unique symbol standing starkly against your skin, marking you as an Executor.

... And congratulations to you! Now that you've become an Executor, this means some very exciting things for you. If they haven't become aware of it already, becoming an Executor will trigger your characters' memory of their Executor Title as well as their very first Memoria Regain! On top of this, you will also get your starter power that your character will have at default as an Executor as well as one free Idea that you may use however you like. For power regains, please submit a comment on the power regain page with this comment linked as the qualifying thread. Do the same at the Memoria page for your Memoria regain!

From here, the intro of the game is more or less over – think of it as the big long cutscene right at the start. Now you can get into the meat of things! From here, players are free to make logs, toplevels, etc as they please and start really exploring Limbo and testing their powers. The entrance to the Underside will be remaining closed for the time being, but will be re-opening on August 28th, at which point our first Underside log will be going up! Look forward to it! ]
