It comes to you suddenly, at the end of an unravelling thread of thought. A sudden, piercing sense of wrongness stops you in your tracks and sends you tumbling through rapidfire questions that you realize you have no answer for. How long have you been here? How long have you been doing the same things, over and over, blindly going through the motions of a routine? Just who are you, anyway?

Questions beget more questions and answers prove illusive until you arrive at the only things you know for certain: the first is that this place is Purgatory.

The second is that you're here because you're dead.

Oddly, this doesn't feel like a surprise of any sort. You don't remember how or why it happened, but it did and that's that. It feels rather as though you've been slapped awake and everything around you has come into sharp focus. You're in Limbo, where you've been wandering since you arrived here in Purgatory alongside all the other mindless souls who are acting out what little they remember of their original lives.

Still lingering is that horrible sense of something being terribly wrong. It hasn't dissipated with your realization of the truth – if anything, it's intensified. There's no way to tell what it is, but there's something going on here.

Maybe you should investigate – or at least see if there's anyone else here who's had the same realization as you...

And yet, were it completed, that still should not be what keeps the water from flowing.

It may be that this place operates differently than how it ought to in our...I hesitate to say memories. Fountains aren't new to me, and yet I cannot recall specifically when I've seen any before.

[He reaches up to grab the sword by the hilt, give it a little shimmy in case it, too, could come loose. Frowns. Mostly because he still doesn't like the whole thing, visually. Maybe if it's complete, it won't unsettle him so.] We could go looking to see if the missing part is somewhere among this odd chaos. [But does it matter? ...It mattered enough that he came to investigate, but...]

[ The sword doesn't come loose, but you do here a dull thunk from deep within the fountain and a sound like laboured clockwork straining to come back to life, and then silence once more. ]

[He nods along to Ardyn's words- he too knows in theory what a fountain is, but... how does he know? Who can say.

He's about to agree that they should find the other half, if just so it stops looking so depressing, but then he hears the 'thud']

Ah! Did you hear that? Something like a machine...?

[He pulls back his hand a moment as though electrocuted--and then...oh...?] Perhaps it does require that extra piece.

[Let's just get up on the hydra's back the statue itself better. Perhaps standing in a place a person might go. He grips the sword again to fiddle with it--is it motion it needs, side to side, back and forth, up and down? Or simply something around it like a button to depress? Do the thing again!!!]

The machinery inside the fountain grumbles some more, but the sword doesn't seem like it's about to come loose anytime soon. ]

I could try it if you wish but... I have a feeling I could end up breaking it.

[He doesn't know how he knows, it's just a Feeling]

Hm...well, if nothing else, we know something of the mechanism is still capable of working. [He takes a gander from this vantage point around the square before sighing and coming lightly splashing back down.]

I see little better to do than simply keep an eye out for something that slots in here. [Because if they're going to wander anyway in this place of 'wow I'm dead now what', then a goal is always better.] Though I admit I haven't the faintest where to start looking save to just...start looking.

Hmm, well, if it IS a figure than perhaps we can ask around? The people here are a bit... strange, but even they might recognize a misplaced statue.

[Well, no, actually, now that he thinks about it...] You may be right, unfortunately. On the bright side, going about on the hunt will help us become more familiar with this locale. Split off, then, and meet back here later?

His Majesty ends up going toward the bathhouse, because there are plenty of people around he could ask. Or maybe someone wanted to...wash it off or something??? Who knows this place is weird.]

[ I COULD make you both go on an extremely elaborate fetch quest and interrogate everyone one by one but let's be real, we'd all get bored of that so I'll be nice and speed you along to the conclusion: You don't find anything in the bathhouse or the movie theater. ]

[Well damn. Lion does get a bag of popcorn on his way out though and totally doesn't just stare at the big screen for way too long cuz wtf??? wtf is this???

[It's tempting to take a dip for a bit, but he doesn't. Not yet! Not while on a quest. Surely...perhaps...the library might hold some information??]

Thankfully though, there is something of note in the coffee bar and it's... a big ol' stone sword just propped against the wall behind the counter. Just chillin' there, like a sword does. ]

[He had been expecting a warrior or knight, not a second sword. But two swords are cool. So he just... picks it up??? He can totally do that. He even slings it over his shoulder like fucking Guts and walks out with it if no one calls him out]

[ speaking of getting called out – the Specter behind the counter pipes up as he walks off. ]

[Like, he could just keep going he's pretty sure no one here could stop him. But something about that feels wrong? Is he not that type of person, maybe?]

[He removes it from his shoulder and holds it up easily]

I know where it belongs- or would you like something to replace it? I'm sure I could find something- or... lose... something?

[ They look a little puzzled for a few more moments... but then they give him a smile and a nod. ]

Well, if you've found it, then that's good enough. Make sure to let that girl know you're not missing it anymore, okay?
