Training Log 3: Revelations

As we have more newcomers again, I will be holding another training session. It will be the same place as before- the part in Limbo. There will be refreshments as well, so even if you do not wish to spar please feel free to come and observe!

[It's that time again! Lion has his little (now a bit beat up since he keeps using the same space) claimed track of land in Limbo set up- wide spaces for people to pair off, a fold-out table with snacks and chairs for sitting and chatting. And of course himself off to the side with his lance in hand- willing to take all challengers and give tips and advice to anyone that comes to him!

He does though, go seeking someone specific out during all this: Chiron]

My friend, may I speak with you in private for a moment?

[There is no feeling of dread here that's just your imagination!]

((ooc: As usual this is a mixer post, so feel free to toss up starters as desired! I will have one for Lion as well if anyone wants to poke him in specific- but use this as a chance to show off- I mean try out new powers you've gained since last time!))

[Medic is at the training session, smiling cheerfully and looking pleased with herself. This is... probably fine.]

[If she catches someone's eye, she'll walk up to them and ask:]

Hi, do you want to help me test something?

[PROBABLY FINE.]

Don't tell me it involves being vivisected and I'll consider it.

[Wow, Wolfsbane really is feeling off her game if she's agreeing to a Mystery Medic Test.]

[mementomoritz]

[Medic nods with all due solemnity and recites, as though swearing an oath:] At no point will the following procedure involve even breaking your skin. ...On purpose.

[She's back to grinning in anticipation.] I just need you to touch my hand for a moment, then attack one of the dummies with your axe like you would normally and tell me if you notice anything different.

[She's not going to specify further, to avoid potentially biasing the results.]

Physical attack, I presume. Let's try it, then.

[She reaches out to tap Medic's hand, then grasps her halberd and swings at the nearest dummy with a scream half the neighbourhood can hear.]

Hope this is okay

[Well, Wolfsbane's attack is certainly very physical right now. As soon as she touches Medic's hand, she'll feel a sudden rush of energy, as though some extra reserve of strength just flowed into her.]

[And, in more visibly obvious results, Wolfsbane will find herself moving a lot faster and hitting even harder than normal. Like, probably blurring slightly levels of faster. She zoom.]

[Medic looks delighted.]

I think it worked!

[emberserker]

[A smile grows wide on Wolfsbane's face. She rushes forward and smashes the next training dummy, pummeling it over and over until it breaks apart. And she laughs.]

Ahahaha, yes! Whatever you did, this power... whatever's in our way will be demolished, I assure you of that!

[Medic laughs happily with her. This seems like a totally normal reaction to her, she's glad to see Wolfsbane is having a good time. Gesturing excitedly, she explains:]

When I heal people, I push... well, life isn't the right word. Let's call it "vitality", a kind of energy. I push vitality into them, and they heal.

So I started experimenting to see if I could also take that vitality away. [OH GOOD, THAT'S NOT A TERRIFYING CONCEPT AT ALL.]

And the answer is yes.

I can reach out and take vitality from Revenants- and then give it to someone else. Sooner or later, you use up the extra vitality and the boost wears off, but... [She grins.] I think if you can hit hard enough, maybe a fight can be over before you need to worry about running out.

That's perfect. Combining that with the new spell I remembered, I'm sure we'll have nothing to worry about!

[mementomoritz]

Well, statistically there could still be- did you say a new spell? [She was about to be sensible about not tempting fate for maybe half a second there, and then immediately forgot about it as soon as she heard there might be something new to collect data on.] What does it do, can I see it?

Absolutely. Behold, Fuego Fatua Grita!

[She gives a twisted smile and raises her halberd in the air. Layered circles of runes glow in the air at the tip and follow it when she brings it down, pointed end aimed straight forward at a trash can down the alley.

Fire shoots out in a straight line all the way there.]

[Second had been warned via others about Medic by now. Multiple times, in fact. A shame then that nobody bothered to inform him as to what she looked like, but even then you'd think through context clues he'd be able to see the writing on the wall.

Since he's a wimp who hasn't really been able to make much (or any) headway with the training though, her coming up to speak to him is a welcome distraction. Maybe then people will be less likely to notice him standing around trying to look like he knows what he's doing. Plus of course he's going to try to seem cool in the presence of a girl, sooo...

He stands up straight and brings a hand to his fringe, pulling his fingers idly through it.]

Why of course. Anything for someone in need~

[Aw, buddy. You really should at least ask questions before you agree to things.]

Great! [She claps her hands together with brisk good cheer.] I just need someone to test this power on, to see if Eidolons react to it the same way Revenants do- all you have to do is stand still for a second and let me touch your hand. [...this seems worryingly benign.]

[karappo]

[Too bad Second isn't that smart...or else this wouldn't be an issue, probably. Maybe.]

A power, you say?

[AND SHE WANTS TO HOLD HIS HAND...

This is your chance, Second.

Without any sense for the sake of his own wellbeing whatsoever, he holds his hand out for her to touch at her leisure.]

It would be my pleasure, my dear.

[Second, she's sixteen and a lesbian. There is absolutely no chance of this happening.]

Thanks! [She reaches out, touches his hand... and he'll immediately feel himself suddenly growing weak and exhausted, like something's sucked the unlife right out of him.]

Ooh, I felt that- I wonder if I can learn to tell the difference between people's vitality by the "taste"? I should take notes!

[...right. Sixteen year old lesbian mad scientist. That last part might be a problem, too.]

[LOOK EVEN THEN...attention from anyone is appreciated, but especially girls.

But also wow, this...kindof sucks, what's happening-]

[His weight shifts a little, nearly wobbling forwards at the sudden energy drop he feels. He very nearly snatches his hand away, but fortunately for the sake of not being rude he'll keep steady.]

Wait- what did you do?!

[mementomoritz]

Hmmm... visible difficulty in keeping balance, but no change in grip strength.

[Honestly, she's probably already letting his hand go to pull out a pen and start taking notes on his responses.]

Testing some new applications of my powers! I can heal people, yes, but it turns out I can also do the opposite- just tear the animating force right out of them. [She smiles brightly.] You can just imagine all the tactical uses!

I w-wish you had told me...

[Not like Karamatsu really even made any attempts to ask first before just offering up his body to science.]

You...do not plan on using this on others regularly...do you?

Hmm... which part would you say was the most unclear? I'm always open to patient feedback- it's important to make sure people are giving informed consent when they contribute to science!

[Could she possibly phrase that in a more alarming way? ...probably. This is Medic we're talking about.]

Mostly I'm going to be using it on Revenants! I do plan on giving the extra energy I collect to my fellow Executors, though. There's no reason to be wasteful!

Of course.

[ She answers right away, without even thinking, because she trusts Medic and only a half second later realizes... oh right, this is Medic. So she should probably ask some clarifying question. ]

W–what is it I'm helping you test, exactly?

A new application of my powers!

[Fortunately, as always, Medic is delighted to explain the latest results of her research.]

I was experimenting with the unusual sensory abilities we gained from taking the Invidia Authority, and found my original powers responding to the extra perception. Essentially, I can sense a kind of animating energy in anything that would be living, if we weren't in Purgatory- people, plants, and so on. I'm calling it vitality! Perceived with that sense, my healing is just putting extra vitality into someone, which causes any damage to repair itself.

And now that I can see that vitality, I can reach out and take it.

[Cool, cool cool cool, that was clearly an ability that Medic of all people needed to have. Great.]

Well, that's... [ Horrifying? Existentially uncomfortable? Terrifying in the hands of Medic? ] ... useful?

[ Sure. We'll go with useful. ]

You want to test it out on me, then?

[mementomoritz]

Only if you're okay with it- patient consent is very important. [Thank fuck for Charity Moritz.]

What I want to do here is have you do a little bit of practice- just whatever you would normally, maybe throwing a few punches or doing some moves with your weapon. Then I'll take a little bit of energy from you and you do the same moves over again, and we can see how much of a difference it makes!

And then I can put the energy back in, plus some extra, and you can try out a boost. [Let her shift into Maximum OverRei.]

I see...

[ Okay, now she's starting to warm up to the idea a little. It's not that she doesn't trust Medic, it's just... she trusts Medic to be 100% herself in any situation, which may occasionally be cause for concern.

But this should be fine. ]

I could start with some of my magic and then we can go from there?

[Honestly, Medic appreciates that. It's nice when people know what they're getting into without her having to explain.]

That should work! I think there's still a couple targets intact over there... [Wolfsbane was very enthusiastic, okay.]

Alright then. Stand back, okay?

[ Rei takes a few steps back herself and then sweeps her blade through the air. A barrage of ice shoots forward and batters against the training dummies – thankfully, she's uh a little more restrained than Wolfsbane, so they're not totally destroyed. ]
