Training Log 3: Revelations

As we have more newcomers again, I will be holding another training session. It will be the same place as before- the part in Limbo. There will be refreshments as well, so even if you do not wish to spar please feel free to come and observe!

[It's that time again! Lion has his little (now a bit beat up since he keeps using the same space) claimed track of land in Limbo set up- wide spaces for people to pair off, a fold-out table with snacks and chairs for sitting and chatting. And of course himself off to the side with his lance in hand- willing to take all challengers and give tips and advice to anyone that comes to him!

He does though, go seeking someone specific out during all this: Chiron]

My friend, may I speak with you in private for a moment?

[There is no feeling of dread here that's just your imagination!]

((ooc: As usual this is a mixer post, so feel free to toss up starters as desired! I will have one for Lion as well if anyone wants to poke him in specific- but use this as a chance to show off- I mean try out new powers you've gained since last time!))

[ Beast has actually shown up for a training session for once because he... got his ass wrecked last time they went to the underside! And he did say to Lion before that he wanted to learn a bit more about fighting... precisely so he can feel a little less useless in combat.

That said, he still feels a little lost with this sort of thing so he's sitting off somewhere to the side, messing with his harp. If he could maybe figure out another skill then maybe he would at least have more to work with. ]

I was hoping you'd come, Beast.

[He's so thrilled!]

Ah-- Sir Lion.

[ He sets his harp aside and rises to his feet. ]

Well, after all that talk of wanting to learn I figured it was only right to put my money where my mouth is and actually show.

I'm glad. Have you considered what kind of fighting skills you would be interested in learning?

Mmm... I have been thinking about it but I'm admittedly still rather lost.

[ He looks back at his wings, giving them a little flap. ]

Because of these I got quite injured during our last expedition; I dodged the attack but they still got caught on the enemy's claws. So I've been somewhat thrown for a loop on what I should do.

Hm.... are they uncomfortable if restrained? Does it affect your balance? Because perhaps we can fashion some armor or a shield to defend them...

As for yourself, I doubt a mundane weapon will do much for you against Revenants, so perhaps some unarmed combat maneuvers would be a possible approach?

Hmm... I'm not sure, honestly. I don't think I've ever had to restrain them in any way, with clothing or otherwise, or at least I don't remember ever having to.

Ah-- by unarmed maneuvers do you mean like... punching?

In a way- I doubt you could do more than annoy a Revenant with an unpowered punch. BUT learning unarmed combat could improve your ability to parry attacks or perhaps even grapple with foes of similar size. Enough to defend yourself in a pinch.

I... see.

Well, I'm willing to give it a try. If I don't at least try it then I'll truly never improve.

[Hey there, guess who is also useless in combat? Given the fact the only kind of combat Second is capable of is fighting among a group, it stands to reason he might be useful here...but if you assumed that, you would be very wrong.

Beast is one of the few of their number he feels he knows decently well however since he aided him in getting his feet wet in regards to this whole process, so he decides to approach when he sees him. Honestly, though? It's mainly so he can get a better look at that instrument of his.]

Beast, my friend. May I have a look at your harp for a moment?

[ He looks up from his instrument. ]

Ah-- Sir Second. My harp, you say?

[ He holds it out for him. It shouldn't break being a Executor weapon so it should be safe to let him see it. ]

Go ahead.

[For what it's worth, Karamatsu is careful with the instrument as he takes it in hand, treating it as if it's something precious. He seems cautious to even touch the strings, as much as it's obvious he wants to.]

This is a magnificent piece. I am only just seeing it now, but something about it feels...familiar almost.

[ Beast smiles softly. ]

It is, isn't it? I'm sure I saw my fair share of harps in my life time, but I doubt any would compare to this one.

[ His eyes in particular settle on the swan like shape of the neck. ]

It reminds me of my son, in a way.

[Harps are fancy for someone of Karamatsu's caliber. Yet, he can still appreciate a beautiful instrument when he sees one.]

Oh- you have a son?

When I was alive, yes. He was a swan feathered - ah, that's what they call those of us with bird wings in my home world.

The frame being so reminiscent of one makes it hard not to think of him when I look at it.

[When he was alive...right. Perhaps that was a sensitive question for him to ask.

Karamatsu carefully passes the harp back to him then, gingerly as if worried he might accidentally fumble it somehow.]

I can imagine. You sound like you care for him very deeply.

[ He takes the harp back, staring at the strings. ]

I did... though my memories of him are sparse, my love for him still yet persists.

[ He continues staring at the harp before playing a few familiar notes, a soft smile on his face despite the melancholy of the music. ]

He was my everything. But all children are to their parents I suppose, hm?

[ You know, to good parents anyway. ]

[ Don't think she doesn't remember what you said about feeling useless in a fight!! She has absolutely no idea what she can do to resolve that, but... she can try and help, at least. ]

[ He looks up from his playing, surprised. ]

Huh? Well, I certainly would not mind but...

Are there not... better training partners for you...?

[ Ones that aren't like. Two feet taller than you and have more than just a harp. ]

There might be, but–

[ ...

Hold on, give her a few seconds to come up with a plausible sounding reason that isn't "I want to help you feel less bad over getting your ass beat in the Underside". ]

B–but I think we should all have some idea of how to fight together going forward. Even if we're not perfectly matched!

[ She didn't even have to say it but he figured it out ]

Ah...

[ She IMMEDIATELY averts her gaze, like she's been caught doing something wrong. ]

That's... not exactly...

[ It 100% is. That's absolutely what she was trying to do. ]

[ He smiles and rises to his feet, taking the harp with him. ]

Thank you, I appreciate it. In that case though, you'll have to be the ones to lead things. This is my first time "training" after all.

She immediately pulls herself up to her full height. ]

Y–yes! Alright! Let's start with...

[ He makes a huffy, laugh like said. ]
