something something start dash
[ Well, now that Esme's thrown down the gauntlet they have little time to waste getting everything ready and the thing idols need most are songs to perform. Right now having at least one song ready is the priority (though preferably more than that), so when he's not helping out with Plan Cancel Esme he's got his hands full with trying to work out something for the girls, even if it's just a melody.
He's got the sheet music he found of songs that used to be Kotori's and is doing his best to use what he has to try and turn them into songs reminiscent of her but still something new. He's got his harp out of course and is alternating between playing for a while, stopping, making adjustments, starting again with the changes, and so on and so forth. ]
Mmm, the second page is missing from this one but if I can compose a suitable bridge after the second chorus it should be fine...
[ He'll worry like stuff like... the actual instrumentation later.
When he needs a break he plays songs he actually knows just to get himself out of the rut, including the one from his most recently returned memory. Sometimes he even gets up and takes everything with him for a change of scenery, going from Executor House to somewhere outside when he feels he needs it... or just wants an excuse to go buy a snack because this is Beast we're talking about after all.
He's still at it even late in the evening (though he's trying to focus on lyrics just as to not be disruptive), so if you're around the Executor House you might catch him either lost in thought as he tries to think of something or dozing off over his work. ]

Executor House
Until Beast starts playing his own music. That makes him slow to a stop and just... listen. Eventually, he even pulls up a chair (quietly, so not to interrupt. Outright lifting it in fact so it doesn't scrape) and sits, hands steepled in front of his face and single eye wide.]

I take it this song meets your approval, friend?

Besides, we play so others will listen after all. An audience is always appreciated.

[ And that is maybe too much a work in progress to be that enjoyable to listen to. ]
...This song is quite soothing, isn't it?
no subject
It really is. I could sleep to this easily I think.
1/2
Yes, I could see it being quite the effective lullaby. Surely you would have good dreams listening to something like this.
no subject
I wonder if that’s why the one I once played it for liked it so much.

[ Literally the only song he knows that wasn’t one of Orpheus’ which is.... puzzling in its own right. ]
Though of course with the murky way this whole memory business works there’s too many holes for me to remember anything else about it, much less who that “someone” might be.
no subject
[He's experienced similar, and he nods along]
Still, even if you don't remember the person in question... being able to play their song is a memorial of a sort.
no subject
[ But there’s... something different about this one. Something about this “Clair de Lune” that makes his heart feel like it’s breaking, even if he doesn’t know why.
He switches back to playing it now, the transition so seamless you might have thought the other song was always a part of it. ]
My apologies though - you are here to listen to my playing not my rambling.
no subject
Please, don't apologize. I can't promise any good advice, but I am more than willing to listen to any 'rambling'.
no subject
[ Not that he's stopping yet but. You know. Should you need some musical soothing. ]

Beast? Are you still working?
[ She looks like she's not quite sure if she should be interrupting – and probably more importantly, she's holding a huge fast food bag that by the look and smell of it is very clearly full of food. ]
1/2
Ah... yes, I'm afraid I still am--
[ But then the smell makes its way to him. ]
no subject
Is... Is that food you have with you?
[ Are you a bird or a dog, geez Beast. ]
no subject
[ Mostly as a distraction. He's been working so hard that she's not sure she could talk him into taking a break without some sort of food-based bribe. ]
I don't exactly know how to cook, though, so it's just fast food. Is that okay?
no subject
Oh believe me my darling, that is more than okay! I am oh so grateful!
[ He pushes his chair back and pats the other chair by the table, beckoning her to join him. ]
no subject
I wasn't sure what you'd like, so I sort of got one of everything... it's a good job there's so many things in the convenience store we can take down to trade...
[ She's unpacking the food as she speaks... it looks like she's got a mcdonalds fuckin feast in there. holy crap. ]
no subject
Goodness, are the two of us even going to be able to eat all this on our own?
[ By which he means will he be able to because he knows you girl and he knows you're just going to eat the fries. ]
no subject
Well– I thought, you'd probably been working all day, so you wouldn't have had much to eat yet. And this way, even if we don't eat all of it at once, you'll have some more to eat if you keep working into the night.
[ See! She thought ahead. ]
no subject
[ He reaches over and takes a fry to munch on, because hell no you're not getting ALL the fries. ]
no subject
How has the writing been going? It must be hard trying to fit together all these songs into one.
no subject
no subject
I really wish there was more we could do to help... writing a song can't be easy and you have two to do. I'm sorry we're putting this much work on you...
no subject
It is all right, do not fret about it. I would not have offered to do this if I did not feel up to the task.
That said... what sort of song would you like to sing? We still have the lyrics to do, giving me an idea of what to write would be most helpful.
no subject
I... really don't know. Before we came down to Invidia, I'd never even listened to music like this, so I'm not really sure what would would.
[ She plucks another fry out of her mountain of them and sticks it morosely in her ketchup. ]
Maybe something about... the way we fight as Executors?
Song Time
[She just shows up.]
[And is currently standing on tiptoe to try and peer over Beast's shoulder, because he's still taller than her despite sitting down.]
no subject
He looks over his shoulder and then leans to the side so she can hopefully have a better view. ]
Ah, Lady Medic - yes, that's right. It's still a work in progress though.
no subject
The words have a good rhythm, I think.

Overdri...ven... come again?
[ Fantasy world curse is striking again it seems. ]

[ oh hey it's the new kid
who knows nothing about music
like, even beyond the amnesia thing
but when Monarch sees Beast dozing from behind, he isn't sure if the man's just asleep or needs help ]
no subject
Nnh...
[ He lifts his head up and looks behind him. ]
Ah... yes, Monarch?
no subject
[ It's....good that he's up, isn't it? Better than any of whatever vaguely ominous alternatives there are to that, in Purgatory. ]
I wasn't sure if you were sick...or....
[ wait, they're dead. can you get sick when you're dead? does he even still have a body, what is this being in which he finds himself contained ]
no subject
[ He sits back up and rubs his eyes. ]
It appears I dozed off while working on the music... I suppose I have been working for quite a while now.
no subject
[ That's impressive. He hadn't really thought about where the idols would be getting their music, but now that Beast mentions it, it does have to come from somewhere....
A group effort. ]
