With Esme's iron-fisted reign brought to an end and the Executors given time to take a very well-earned break, it finally comes down to descend to the next layer of Purgatory. Thankfully, with this being the group as a whole's second descent, things are a little less nerve-wracking this time around... maybe. Hopefully. ... Probably. Welcome to Avaritia. A little exploring until we happen upon the right way to go isn't bound to hurt anyone. Too badly, at any rate.

With some of our number, I wonder. I suppose you frequented places like this when you were alive.

Mm, I wouldn't know. I compared the last city to one I have memory of, and this seems...along similar lines? Merely brighter and louder yet.

That's true enough. Must they advertise on everything? [She side-eyes a truck crossing the street carrying only a billboard for the Neon Graveyard.]

If one wants patronage, one must gain attention and notoriety. I suppose in this iteration, they've chosen brightly colored lights as their manner of attention.

It could be worse--it could all be green and have her face plastered on everything, but bigger and brighter.

I suppose that means the Authority here doesn't come from popularity. Look, every sign's advertising all manner of people and businesses -- surely there's competition, but there's no obvious monopoly. ...When it comes to people, anyway. Businesses might be a different tale. Look at that.

[Wolfsbane indicates the towering bank.]

It stands out, that's for sure. That and... there's one casino. Of course it's large enough to take up a city block, but I'd have expected a dozen the same size.

The afterlife works in mysterious ways~ Perhaps there simply isn't a need for a lot of casinos when one mega-casino will do, not unlike the mall? Still, there were other shops of sorts, but...

[He narrows his eyes, staring at the towers.]

The things which stand out are the obvious starting points, at any rate.

Right. Perhaps the proprietor is the Authority we're looking for. A business monopoly is certainly a way to have power over the area.

It's already been threatened and/or promised that the next time a song and dance number is required to save the day, it will be myself and Beast and Phoenix to be dolled up. So here's hoping our next opponent either sees reason or isn't interested in riling up the attentions of the populace.

The odds are that'll just get the lot of us run out of town.

Though I very much doubt we can be locked out of a whole town--a whole substratum of the afterlife! Not once it's open to us to come and go as we please. At least in theory.

Regardless. Given everything, we might more likely have to prove our worth in a card game. It seems on brand.

And how good are you at cards, my dear? [y'all are children you should not be gambling go play a friendly children's trading card game!!!]

Well, it's a common pursuit, it can't be that difficult.

All those rules and variations on those rules, all that terminology, the skills and the luck--goodness, that's a lot to juggle. And in just one game alone! So many games.

Now you're just being patronizing. I can learn anything. It's just that I prefer to put my talents elsewhere.

And where do you prefer putting your talents? It certainly isn't in social endeavors, that much I've gathered.

Are you insinuating something? Just because I prefer to train and make sure we aren't going to get ourselves annihilated doesn't mean I can't talk to people.

You don't talk to people in a way that endears you to them.

Have you known Kingslayer or Phoenix to speak kindly of me? [In other words: yeah, pretty much.]

[She stiffens with a frown.] Phoenix gets along well with about anyone, and Kingslayer... well, that was just the way they communicated, wasn't it?

Phoenix does not seem to understand friendship when it bites him quite soundly on his well-exercised backside. Or perhaps he just isn't interested in friendship? Helping everyone, yes, if it means cooking grand meals I suppose, but...

[...but this conversation is not about Phoenix.]

In any event, I'm only saying that your particular skillset is not in making friends.

Don't tell me what I'm good or not good at. I believe I can find that for myself. [She glares.] And at least I haven't run around beating up my allies like some of us.

Perhaps we should focus back on cards. Before you become even more frustrated with me than usual.
