With Esme's iron-fisted reign brought to an end and the Executors given time to take a very well-earned break, it finally comes down to descend to the next layer of Purgatory. Thankfully, with this being the group as a whole's second descent, things are a little less nerve-wracking this time around... maybe. Hopefully. ... Probably. Welcome to Avaritia. I- just a little bit. I guess you could say it's a cultural sort of thing.

It's not -- [groan] Yes, actually. It's my family's symbol, if you must know. Or it must be, not that I remember anything about them specifically.

Huh... that's the same with mine. It's a crest, it... well it's something to do with my family lineage. Our bloodline.

I suppose you were from an old mage family, then? Or something of the like. I know I must have been; there weren't any new mage families anymore, what with the seal.

I don't know if it works the same as what you remember. I just know... that Crests are respected. You don't get to be a member of the nobility without one, there's ten main ones but some others I remember but I don't understand. I don't know the names of them I just know what they are. They're in the blood, they give you special abilities and special treatment.

If you don't have one you're worthless and if you do...[His jaw clenches, frowning deeply, his own words completely without context but prominent in his memory somehow. To all these commoner girls, I'm just a trophy. Or rather, a studhorse.]

Of course. That kind of thing would be natural, wouldn't it?

[It's almost unconscious. But is it natural? Should it be?]

People will treat you like what they expect you to be. At least I'd assume so. What you were born for, or what they think you were. And you weren't happy with that, I take it.

How is that natural?

[He shakes his head a little but he lets the frustration go, tries to anyway. There's no purpose in it, there's nothing for it, not now, and he has no memories to support the feeling that goes with the knowledge.]

I just don't see how having some great great so and so that did something important means you deserve more than anyone else. That's stupid. Just because it gives someone abilities doesn't mean it makes them a good person or a good leader or good at anything really. Just means maybe you don't die so easy.

Then what are we worth, then?!

[She spins on her heel to face him, away from the wall of stupid souvenirs.]

If not for our power or ancestors, what is there? We're barely people here as it is without our memories and what we had before.

I dunno... [He has an answer but it doesn't apply to the others. He knows what he's worth, always has. But where she's full of emotion about it he's just... resigned.]

Guess that's something for us to figure out for ourselves? Or maybe I'm just an idiot. I mean, I should be grateful to have a crest, right?

It doesn't sound like you'd be happy no matter what you had or didn't.

[It's so painfully accurate that all he can really do is cringe, a strained laugh escaping him. But the laugh gets easier after a moment, running a hand through his damp hair to fluff up his poor curls.]
