Avaritia Arrival Log
![]() It's Vegas, baby! Oh wait, I already made that joke on the location page... With Esme's iron-fisted reign brought to an end and the Executors given time to take a very well-earned break, it finally comes down to descend to the next layer of Purgatory. Thankfully, with this being the group as a whole's second descent, things are a little less nerve-wracking this time around... maybe. Hopefully. ... Probably. Welcome to Avaritia. Feel free to use this arrival log to chronicle your initial misadventures in the Greed Layer of Purgatory. As noted in the location page, several locations will require further investigation if you'd like to get some information on them, so get investigating! Drop a comment down to the Investigation Request subheader if you'd like to explore. Get out there and have fun! | |

Running inside a building is no way to report for a job interview, so he settles for a brisk and focused walk instead. Five hundred...five hundred.....Should be this way. Let's see.

When he finally arrives at cubicle five hundred, he'll see there's a Specter busy at work, pecking away at their keyboard with intense focus. So much so that it takes them a second to realize Monarch has approached but they give him a smile when they finally look up.
"Can I help you?"
no subject
Fortunately, he's formal by nature and he has excellent posture. Thus, he doesn't have to try to act when he draws himself up and keeps a deliberate, polite distance between himself and this Specter in his speech.
"I'm very sorry for interrupting your work. I'd heard there were positions available, and would like to apply."
no subject
They rattle off a few more keystrokes on whatever it is they're typing and then turn their attention fully to Monarch.
"What sort of position were you looking for?"
no subject
"Something in mathematics," Monarch offers. He takes a seat, but his posture doesn't get any less rigid. "I'm good with numbers...."
For a boy his age....He thinks? He's already figured out he's the sort of person who notices details, and that should help with balancing a ledger or any other financial behind-the-scenes work. His fingers curl on his knees, and he realizes he's been waiting to be found out this whole time, as if he can't believe he's getting away with infiltrating.
Well, that's no way to go about this. He'll have to press on, as far as he can go.

Evidently, his answers are good enough that when they're finally done, the Specter offers a hand to shake across the desk with a smile.
"It's going to be good working with you." they tell him. "Are you ready to start immediately?"
They... haven't told him what the position being offered is yet, huh.
no subject
"Thank you!" He raises a hand to accept that handshake, but then his brain catches up to the situation. "Um...I can start, but, my duties...?"
no subject
And there they go...

Had they not understood it was a question (his fault), or do they assume he'll come to understand by seeing what he needs to do (which means he can't just keep standing here)? Either way, the only solution is to begin following, so Monarch does precisely that.
--He's learning that in life, he was a physically fit child, what with all of the running and walking working in a bank seems to entail.

Before he can ask any questions, the Specter bulldozes on and starts talking about him making sure 'the books' add up and going over things with his own two eyes, and fixing up any discrepancies in the accounts.
no subject
He is an attentive listener, taking in what's expected of him, and mentally planning to make a note of anyone whose records look like they might point towards Authority at work - or general foul play. Finding the Authority is just one part of what they're here to do. If people are being injured by that Authority...in a place like Avaritia, maybe...swindled, or oppressed with financial power...?....that's another avenue to pursue.
When the Specter gives him a moment, he has just one question: "Are there reasons to suspect something might be out of order?"
no subject
It's for Vault #0, of course. There can't be any mistakes.
They gently lecture him about this importance a little more, but his instructions eventually come down to something very simple. The Specter hands him an accounts book that, they say, is for Vault #0's account. Vault #0 should be, at the very least, 20% more full than any other account. If Monarch comes across any accounts that are within 20% of Vault #0's total, he's to transfer the difference into Vault #0 to correct the discrepancy.
Any questions?
no subject
"Our vaultholders are confidential, then."
He nods, trying to look like someone internalizing an important lesson, like someone very intent upon doing an Excellent Job. (This, at least, he does not have to feign.) "Understood. I'll keep the percentage as it should be."
no subject
Praise from an adult.. chase that high, Monarch.
They lecture him a little more about his duties and the importance of getting everything in place and just generally give the impression of wanting to hear the sound of their own voice some more. But then, finally, they see fit to leave him be. They assure him that if he's having any trouble, he can come and ask for help and to just do his best. It's only his first day, after all.
And with that, Monarch is left alone to leaf through all these accounting books.

How's its contents stacking up compared to the rest of the accounts under his purview? He definitely needs to tell everyone about this, but wants to give a Thorough Report.
no subject
There's no name to indicate who the account belongs to, just a very long identifying number and some notes here and there just about money transfers and ensuring the account is kept consistently topped up. What's interesting to note about the money transfers, though, is that while there's plenty going in, there are never any transfers made out of the account.

Monarch feels very uneasy about this, but the anxiety is laced with anticipation. Hoarding. The owner of Vault #0 is hoarding. Just like Esme wanted to be more beloved and famous than anyone else......this person wants to be richer.
This could be it. He has to tell the others. He has to do a good job with the accounts, and spend a lot of time at "work". Monarch memorizes the ID number.
His current plan is to be an absolutely stellar employee, so no one suspects him of anything and he's in a position to possibly overhear more. But he's had enough advice given to him on the topic lately to know: he can't do this alone.
