[ Okay cool so... as soon as he’s far enough away from her and blended back into the crowd he takes his phone out— oh.

Okay well. Good for him he DEFINITELY forgot to shut the recording off before. Technical incompetence coming in handy!

He stops the recording finally and makes a note to share this with everyone else later (hopefully the audio isn’t too fucked but whatever this is roleplay, we’ll do whatever’s most convenient). For now though he very quickly goes to message Chiron and the kids, hoping that they at least have their phones on vibrate or something. ]

[ That’s all he says before starting to head to his seat. It’s all he really needs to say. He’s not going to bombard them with notif sounds until they respond or he sees them in person. ]

[Oh ho ho! So Beast was successful on his hunt~ Chiron doesn't text a response; if Some Shit goes down, he'll know and go to the rescue. As it is, he returns to the seating, a few casino chips richer, and gives Beast a mild wave of greeting.]

This bit of theater is entertaining, though I have to wonder if your guest is in on it as well. That dastardly rapscallion certainly hasn't pulled anything off alone~

[ Beast just barely raises his arm to wave back. He has his cheek propped up on his other hand and his leg is jittering at a mile a minute. He’s clearly a bit agitated and riled up after that encounter. Now that he’s had a moment to actually sit and stew on what happened the full weight of his actions and their conversation has caught up with him and left him with his feathers all ruffled.

Even as Chiron joins him he finds himself making a quick look around to make sure he isn’t being watched. Probably just paranoia considering how smug she was, but after Esme’s little poison attempt he’s not taking any chances with these Authorities. ]

I wouldn’t be surprised if she were. She seemed just as convinced that the whole thing was part of the show... like she was having a personal chuckle over it all.

Someone's helping the dear thing write their menacing speeches. There's a dressing room, however rushed and stashed away. Some who run this place are seeming to be involved, but...I can't say I see how it fits together. Deliberately inviting the richer of everyone to get them talking... Merely to drum up admission, mayhap?

[He settles in with a sigh, patting Beast's bouncing leg.] And what was she like, hm? As fake as Esme?

[ The pat gets his leg to chill out at least. He sighs as well and realizes in that moment that the tension he’d been holding in his wings since she called him Executor had only just now released. ]

No, not that bad thankfully - though I am unsure how much of her true colours I saw just then. She didn’t seem as hostile either, but she was somehow even more infuriatingly smug.

...What she has most in common with Esme though is a staunch refusal to let us pass through here.

Hm, hardly a surprise. She'll put up a fight, unfortunately. But now we've a little better idea of how to go about it rather than gun for a fight right off the bat.

[........Hm. He glances...around...]

I suppose the children are still trying to catch our mystery figure.

[ He had been reaching into his pocket for his phone, intending to show that he had managed to record the conversation, but then Chiron brings up the kids and he goes dead still. ]

...They are?

[ He had been... so worked up that the fact the kids still weren’t back hadn’t even crossed his mind as something to be worried about until just now.

Now all that tension is back in his wings. Now ALL THE WORRY is rushing in. ]

Y... You don’t think anything’s happened to them, do you?!

If something happens, I'm sure they have all the skills to be fine. [EXECUTORS, Beast!] Gods know with their size and potential stealthiness they could have gotten anywhere by now.

[don't! make him worry! stop that!]

[ He looks down at his phone still in his hand and back at the stage then back at the phone several times over, as if mentally debating whether it’s worth it to call Rei a kajillion times or if that would be too risky to do with them possibly still sneaking around. His whole body seems to vibrating as his legs starts anxiously bouncing again. ]

I... I suppose... they could handle any danger themselves... Goddess knows Rei can fight better than I can...

Beast, my dear. [Hand on leg. Again. He's keeping that hand there!] If they're on the prowl for someone slippery and not easily caught, I do not think having a phone ring in the middle of a hunt is going to do them any favors. Hm? Let's give them some more time.

[ It’s not as immediate this time but it does stop soon enough with Chiron’s hand there again. Beast looks away from his phone and at the hand for a few seconds before sighing again. ]

You’re... You’re right.

[ He leans back in his seat, his phone hand resting limply in his lap. ]

I apologize... running into the Authority has left me on edge. Especially after what happened last time with Esme.

Understandable. I'm not sure how our mystery person relates to...all of this, but I believe they might simply be an actor or somehow simply part of the show.

And if not, they are capable of asking for help.

Not that we aren't also perfectly capable of going to help ourselves.

[ Hearing again that the mystery person is probably just an actor does help to put him at ease... but he does find himself looking to Chiron to ask: ]

...Should we?

[ In his mind he knows it’s better if they don’t. The kids are probably fine, and there’s not much good he could do trying to sneak around with his height and wings in the way. But the heart is a little bit harder to convince. ]

Ten minutes? Give it ten minutes, and then we'll go looking. They've got the harder job, after all.

...All right.

[ He leans against Chiron, resting on his shoulder if allowed and finally releases his tension again. ]

Ten minutes then. That’s reasonable.

[Oh, it is most assuredly allowed. He'd put an arm around Beast's shoulders if it wasn't for, like...wings that might make that a little more awkward. Don't worry, his hair gets a little nuzzle.]

We can even reduce it to five if you're terribly anxious. But I think we should give them a chance.

[ Good, then his head is staying right there. The nuzzle is greatly appreciated. ]

No, you’re right. Ten will fine. It would be good of me to try and learn not to worry so much anyway.

[ And then he smiles with a low half laugh. ]

Besides, it gives us some time alone.

Oh~? [Guess whose thigh is getting a squeeze!] Then maybe this mystery is a good thing after all, if what you really wanted was some time alone with your theater date.

[ He laughs under his breath again and gives Chiron a playful jab in the arm. ]

Maybe so. You do realize though that if you keep flirting like that, eventually I’m going to think you might be serious, right?

[ Like you have not also been affectionate and flirty you big dummy. ]

And? What would you call what you've been doing? Or perhaps you didn't really want to take me on a date after all. Terribly disappointing, but at least we got an adventure out of it.

Touché, I suppose.

[ He pulls himself away from the other’s shoulder at that, straightening back up. ]

...I really did want to do something nice for you tonight though. It felt like the least I could do after you so patiently listened to me that first night here in Avaritia.

[ He pauses for a moment, considering, then adds: ]

And I was... worried. When you vanished for those few days.

[ Because yeah he. Had definitely noticed that! ]

[He could make some witty repartee about owing for something so trivial, but then...doesn't. The jovial mood seems to evaporate in a moment, and he pulls his hands back to himself.]

Yes, well.

[Well what?]

I would hope it's not something I'll have to do again, but I'm well aware that lady luck, as it were, is not on my side.

[ If it’s one thing he became good at while alive, it was reading the room and detecting changes in mood. He senses the shift in Chiron’s and knows immediately that he hit a sore spot. His smile is gone and he keeps his eyes ahead. ]

Forgive me, it was not my intent to ruin the mood by bringing it up. I don’t expect you to talk about it and we need not dwell on it either. In fact, should you need to disappear again I would not hold it against you - after all there may very well be a time where “Lady Luck” will not be on my side either and I will wish not to be seen for a while.

[ He turns to look at him now. ]

But I... want you to know that if you ever need anything Chiron, whether it’s someone to talk to, a distraction or simply a shoulder to rest on, I will always be here for you. I am here for all of you.

Oh, Beast.

[His voice is touched, but the smile that worms his way to his face is not. Something more brittle.]
