Training Log 3: Revelations

As we have more newcomers again, I will be holding another training session. It will be the same place as before- the part in Limbo. There will be refreshments as well, so even if you do not wish to spar please feel free to come and observe!

[It's that time again! Lion has his little (now a bit beat up since he keeps using the same space) claimed track of land in Limbo set up- wide spaces for people to pair off, a fold-out table with snacks and chairs for sitting and chatting. And of course himself off to the side with his lance in hand- willing to take all challengers and give tips and advice to anyone that comes to him!

He does though, go seeking someone specific out during all this: Chiron]

My friend, may I speak with you in private for a moment?

[There is no feeling of dread here that's just your imagination!]

((ooc: As usual this is a mixer post, so feel free to toss up starters as desired! I will have one for Lion as well if anyone wants to poke him in specific- but use this as a chance to show off- I mean try out new powers you've gained since last time!))

[Phoenix was glad to have an opportunity to get back to work; his powers hadn't changed, but a lack of practice might dull his skills if he wasn't careful. Eventually, he'd have to figure out how to fight somewhere as cacophonous as Avaritia--that started with getting back to practice and setting aside any complicated memories or attached feelings.]

[So he set himself off to the side away from the others with swordcane in hand--slashing and cutting at an invisible enemy with deadly precision and expertise, the blade occasionally even alight with flame as he worked on his technique.]

[Calling over to him from a polite distance out of swordcane range:]

Do you want a sparring partner?

[...What? She's a combat medic, she needs to brush up on her fighting every now and then, too. Besides, if he's going to be practicing with someone while using live steel, the person who can regenerate her own injuries is probably a good choice.]

...Are you certain you want to?

[regen or not, he'd rather not actually hurt someone, yanno]

[mementomoritz]

Mm-hm! If I get injured, that's just an opportunity to practice healing and fighting at the same time.

Besides, it's always best to try things out in a controlled environment before applying them in the field.

Well, so long as you're sure. I wouldn't wish to hurt you by mistake, so don't hesitate to speak up if you need to stop and I will do the same.

[he'd at least turn off the fire, because good lord.]

[mementomoritz]

That seems fair. [Medic nods agreeably- which he can't see, but is probably audible in her tone.]

[Secretly she's a little disappointed that he turned off the fire, but eh. She'll unlive.]

[Lifting her giant scissors and settling into a stance, she calls out:] I'm ready when you are!

[Well, if you insist.]

[He's just gonna get right to it and come in with a clear-cut frontal assault and a low attack aimed at her legs.]

[mementomoritz]

[Medic leaps up like a kid playing jump-rope, lifting both feet off the ground to avoid the sword aimed at her legs.]

[As she does, the scissors dart forward, aiming to snap shut on the incoming blade and trap it.]

Ah, you can set your sword on fire? That's useful.

[She seems surprisingly calm for someone who just went on a laughing-mad rampage against a training dummy.]

I've been able to for some time--I think it may be some manner of holdover from something I could do when I was still alive.

[emberserker]

Well, that makes sense. I remembered a spell I knew in life, and I can still manage to pull it off. Observe.

[She raises her halberd and brings it down, pointing it at a poor unfortunate stop sign. While Phoenix won't see the magic circles or the movement, he should feel a blast of heat and hear something as a column of flame shoots straight out at it.]

...Should I point out how inherently silly it is to tell me to observe something?

[no, but he will]

I didn't tell you to look, Phoenix. You've got other senses. Honestly now.

I was only teasing, Wolfsbane. I can tell you have quite the talent there.

You said you didn't want to fight me. [A slow exhale, like he's already exhausted before he's begun.] Does that include sparring, or testing some healing capabilities?

[discutio]

No, I think a simple sparring match might be good for the both of us if you would like to.

[who knows, really.]

What capabilities were you thinking of testing?

I feel...hm. More powerful, somehow? But I have yet to test it. Perhaps I simply am better at healing worse injuries, though I did discover that one...

Very well--we can do whatever you like, I've been concerned I might fall out of practice.

[schardynfreude]

Do you have any qualms about hurting me now?

[discutio]

Yes, actually, I don't wish to grievously injure you in a sparring match.

[phantasmagorial]

I–is that on fire?!

[ It obviously is, but she's so startled by the sight that she just has to confirm. Phoenix... scary. ]

[discutio]

...Yes?

[is that a problem]

[phantasmagorial]

I didn't even realize we could do things like that with our weapons...

[ She sounds kind of amazed. Suddenly, her mind's buzzing with ideas for ways she could try the same thing – her sword is fine on its own and ice isn't exactly as useful as fire, but if she could figure something out... ]

Do you think you could explain how it works to me? I don't know if I could do the same thing exactly, but I'd like to try.

[discutio]

Truthfully, I'm not all that sure. [The fire went out as Phoenix considered the finer details of 'how', trying and failing to come up with any substantial explanation.] It just sort of happened. I think it was something I was capable of when I was alive, as well.

I suppose that it's like channeling magic or whatever sort of power Executors utilize, like... [He trailed off, passing a hand over the blade and lighting it up again in bright orange flame.]

I guess we're all still working things out. That's what our training's for.

[ It's weirdly helpful to know, though – that even though Phoenix looks so sure and capable of himself that even he isn't fully certain of just what his powers do. It's reassuring. ]

Do you mind if I watch for a little while to see how it works?
