Training Log 01: Shiny new powers

It's been a day- or something similar to it. After all, time seemed to be a weak thing here. But it's long enough that the pounding in his head from the attack under the Founation is... manageable. His ribs still ache, but he's not going to let that stop him- if Rei needed them to fight, then he would fight. Especially since he now remembered HOW to fight- a weak memory that came with a few other things. Like that fact that he might be royalty(?), but more useful was his skills with a weapon.

So he goes hunting for a big open area- and every other Executor he sees he mentions his intention: to train and test out these new powers. Eventually he finds what he's looking for: what probably was supposed to be a park, though it was slightly twisted like everything else here. But it was open enough that he probably wouldn't hit any non-combatants. A quick switch to his Executor uniform, massive black armor with a fur lined cloak, and he spins his bone spear like an expert.

How strange to have this knowledge but almost no context. Well, it is what it is. He wonders if any of the others will join him?

((ooc: feel free to tag amoung yourselves as well!))

[ something about Magnum Opus has changed. to be honest, the memory she recovered wasn't all that useful in terms of skills or her identity. she doesn't have a better idea of who she is, or what she wants to do with herself; emotions are still difficult to reach and to grasp. but the fog has receded somewhat. when Lion announces his intentions to train, she finds that for the first time since waking, her decision is clear and direct. she wants to learn.

so she trails along behind Lion to the park, and when he makes a general invitation, she approaches him and speaks up: ]

Um... I don't know about blowing off steam, but...

[ she summons her weapon in a flash of light — an elaborate ranseur-like weapon, reminiscent of a long clock hand. they're polearm buddies! but unlike Lion, she's clearly not as comfortable with wielding it. she holds it flat across both her hands, palms up, and though her expression is still a little blank, she seems to be giving him a helpless look. ]

... If it's not too much trouble, could you teach me a little?

[ she nods, and hands it to him without any hesitation. ]

You seemed like a good person to ask... Your weapon is much heavier than mine, but you definitely look like you know what you're doing. [ which is why she's just going to leave it to him to test out the weight and whatever else he likes while she folds her hands politely. ] We... didn't really get to introduce ourselves properly, did we?

[ what with the confusion of it all and not having anything to use as names yet. ]

I'm Magnum Opus. Or at least, that's the only thing I have to call myself right now...

Lion... It suits you. Because you're big and fluffy. [ said in full sincerity, without a hint of teasing or embarrassment. ] It's nice to meet you, Lion.

[ she takes the weapon and weighs it in her hands, trying to figure out what her body instinctively wants to do. ] I think... right. That feels the most natural.

Like a lever...

[ she widens her stance and looks over at Lion several times as she adjusts her posture, her grip on the ranseur, trying to copy him. it's not too hard to get the basic idea from his example, but actually putting it into practice is a lot different. she sucks in a sharp breath and holds it, ranseur poised to thrust. ]

Hyah! [ she jabs it forward — but even keeping in mind Lion's advice, it's hard to keep the driving force to her right arm instead of thrusting with both of her hands. it doesn't come naturally. her left shoulder jerks, control promptly lost. the tip of the ranseur veers to the side of where she was aiming, and she winces. ] Ah— S-sorry! I'll get it right...
alcahest: (and the table it ran away a bloody mess.)

[ she's sure that assigning any kind of deliberate style or intent to her clumsy attack is too generous — brute force just seems to come more naturally than technique, and the one memory she's recovered certainly doesn't suggest she was ever in a situation of such structured combat. but his musing does warrant a look of awe-struck surprise from Magnum Opus. ]

You know a lot, Lion... Did you do something like this when you were alive?
