Training Log 01: Shiny new powers

It's been a day- or something similar to it. After all, time seemed to be a weak thing here. But it's long enough that the pounding in his head from the attack under the Founation is... manageable. His ribs still ache, but he's not going to let that stop him- if Rei needed them to fight, then he would fight. Especially since he now remembered HOW to fight- a weak memory that came with a few other things. Like that fact that he might be royalty(?), but more useful was his skills with a weapon.

So he goes hunting for a big open area- and every other Executor he sees he mentions his intention: to train and test out these new powers. Eventually he finds what he's looking for: what probably was supposed to be a park, though it was slightly twisted like everything else here. But it was open enough that he probably wouldn't hit any non-combatants. A quick switch to his Executor uniform, massive black armor with a fur lined cloak, and he spins his bone spear like an expert.

How strange to have this knowledge but almost no context. Well, it is what it is. He wonders if any of the others will join him?

((ooc: feel free to tag amoung yourselves as well!))

[Welp, that sure is a teenage girl abruptly right up in your personal space, Lion.]

Hello! Did you know the average recovery length for a concussion is ten days? I know that again now.

Also, you still have a concussion.
mementomoritz: leave her out of the yearbook (class photo day)

[personal profile] mementomoritz 2020-08-06 12:54 am (UTC)(link)
Then that's a remarkably fast recovery! [Apparently completely oblivious to the possibility that he might be lying to her.] Can I have a skin sample to see how quickly it regenerates?
mementomoritz: try again? (test results are inconclusive)

[personal profile] mementomoritz 2020-08-06 12:58 am (UTC)(link)
[She's already in the process of pulling out a small knife and a little plastic baggie from the conbini.] Nope!

[She pauses.] That probably means you aren't fine, do you want me to fix that? Because I can fix that!

cw: cutting a very small amount of skin off

[personal profile] mementomoritz 2020-08-06 01:15 am (UTC)(link)
Yep! [She gently but firmly takes one of his hands, and uses the knife to remove a tiny bit of skin off of one of the more calloused parts, no bigger than the head of a pin, with surgical speed and precision.]

[Literally surgical, because guess who remembered being a fully-trained doctor despite the fact that no one in their right mind would have granted her a medical license? This girl.]

Which is very interesting, because according to my new memory, I was also a medical professional while I was alive! [She deftly deposits the sample in the plastic baggie and seals it, then channels her power through the hand holding Dimitri's.]

[As she does, not only does the tiny scrape she made heal and vanish completely, he'll find the concussion has completely cleared up, as have his bruised ribs. Sadly, she can't regenerate his eye- it doesn't seem to do anything for older wounds- but all his more recent little dents and damages will disappear, leaving behind a brief feeling of pleasant warmth, before she lets go and that dissipates as well.]

Correlation isn't causation, of course, so I'll need a lot more data before I can make any assumptions, but the potential connection there is very interesting! [Just continuing to chatter on like this isn't at all unusual...]
mementomoritz: good day (good friends)

cw: implied very minor self-harm for science

[Yesss, engagement in her wild scientific theories, her favorite thing. Well, one of her favorite things. It's definitely in the top ten.]

It might explain why we regained memories at the same time as we gained powers, too- if they're linked to our identities, they'd go hand in hand. [She casually stores the knife and the sample away in some of her various pockets, the other contents of which are probably best not examined.] But then there's the question of our limits. Are those linked, too?

I've definitely confirmed I can't heal myself, so there's at least some limit involved! [...that sure is a lot of band-aids on her hand, which Lion may have noticed. Those weren't there yesterday.]

[Like any good mad scientist, the first test subject is always herself.]

Or the weapons, do they have a symbolic meaning? I'm not good at symbolism...

[ something about Magnum Opus has changed. to be honest, the memory she recovered wasn't all that useful in terms of skills or her identity. she doesn't have a better idea of who she is, or what she wants to do with herself; emotions are still difficult to reach and to grasp. but the fog has receded somewhat. when Lion announces his intentions to train, she finds that for the first time since waking, her decision is clear and direct. she wants to learn.

so she trails along behind Lion to the park, and when he makes a general invitation, she approaches him and speaks up: ]

Um... I don't know about blowing off steam, but...

[ she summons her weapon in a flash of light — an elaborate ranseur-like weapon, reminiscent of a long clock hand. they're polearm buddies! but unlike Lion, she's clearly not as comfortable with wielding it. she holds it flat across both her hands, palms up, and though her expression is still a little blank, she seems to be giving him a helpless look. ]

... If it's not too much trouble, could you teach me a little?
alcahest: (beware, where i am is where)

[personal profile] alcahest 2020-08-06 01:26 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Magnum Opus seems to be a little more... awake than she was that first day. she still has that serene, doll-like air about her, but her gaze is clearer and less empty, her movements more intent. anyone who has spoken to her today will find that, while she isn't exactly chatty, she has an easier time forming words now, with just a bit more inflection in her soft, quiet voice. the memory she regained didn't change her entirely, but it did fill some of the emptiness.

which is why she's out here at all. yesterday, even her decision to become an Executor wasn't made with any particular will behind it. it seemed like the thing she should do, so she did. today, Lion brought up training, and she had thought: I want to do that. it's so easy to think that, all of a sudden. to make a decision by herself and act on it.

her Executor outfit doesn't do much to make her seem less like a doll, with all of its elaborate trappings, the tiers of ruffled fabric and delicate accessories surely more suited to sitting on a shelf than heading into combat. there isn't a single inch of skin left uncovered on her aside from her face, even as she moves. the weapon she holds is something like a ranseur — (a type of polearm, for people who didn't go look up medieval spear variations and agonise over the many choices) — and is styled like an elaborate clock hand in gold and brass. ]

Um... Let's see...

[ judging by the way she holds her weapon, and her hesitant movements, she doesn't seem to be particularly accustomed to it yet. if someone checks up on her to see if she's doing alright, or invites her to train with them, she'll admit with some embarrassment: ]

This doesn't feel very natural... I suppose I didn't do anything like this when I was alive.
alcahest: (i boiled up a feast)

[personal profile] alcahest 2020-08-06 01:51 pm (UTC)(link)
[ she nods, and hands it to him without any hesitation. ]

You seemed like a good person to ask... Your weapon is much heavier than mine, but you definitely look like you know what you're doing. [ which is why she's just going to leave it to him to test out the weight and whatever else he likes while she folds her hands politely. ] We... didn't really get to introduce ourselves properly, did we?

[ what with the confusion of it all and not having anything to use as names yet. ]

I'm Magnum Opus. Or at least, that's the only thing I have to call myself right now...
alcahest: (my arms are worn and scarred)

[personal profile] alcahest 2020-08-06 02:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Lion... It suits you. Because you're big and fluffy. [ said in full sincerity, without a hint of teasing or embarrassment. ] It's nice to meet you, Lion.

[ she takes the weapon and weighs it in her hands, trying to figure out what her body instinctively wants to do. ] I think... right. That feels the most natural.

[For all that His Majesty had initially hesitated to join the gaggle of people clamoring for the power of an Executor, he seems to be fully willing to go along with this whole training routine. He may even have something of a spring in his step.

He's yet to show his particular tattoo, but with his clothing, it could be goddamn anywhere, huh. Even when he changes to his Executor form, with more layers than his current, brilliantly bright, it's just More Clothes. He runs a hand through his hair, longer and pulled back and less an unruly mess, giving a tuneless hum.]

How strange that it should be as easy as thought, to step from one reality of self to another.

[Stranger still is the weapon that appears in his hands at a motion that seems practiced somehow, accompanied by the sound of shattering crystal and a sparkle of much the same. jesus christ it's a giant scythe it's fucking massive what the hell]

...This seems unwieldy.

[But it's a jrpg weapon so don't worry about it, it'll still hit its targets just fine. Just. Wow. He's got reach. While the summoning of such a weapon feels familiar, the actual using of it...is less so. This will take some actual practice.

Things that also take actual practice: abilities. If anyone manages to hurt themselves in their experimenting, he'll come to them or suggest they close the distance so he can attempt to use his newfound healing. Failing that, you will occasionally see him, blink, and then see he's moved elsewhere, leaving behind naught but a faint magenta afterglow where he once stood--practicing at warping.

He. has to take several breaks through this particular part. It clearly wears him out easily, and that's even when he's not stumbling out of the warp like he's exited a very dizzying ride. He's frustrated at himself when he's caught resting, waving off concern.]

Relic heard that there was some other executors getting some practice in, so she ambled on over to check it out. Getting used to her new found abilities was probably wise, after all. Plus it was better than sitting around and thinking about the one memory from her past life she had.

When she arrived, though, she saw who was leading things and stopped in her tracks. It was that guy, who had grabbed her. And who she had punched in the face.

"Of course. Why would it be anyone else?"

emberserker: Slightly unnerving smile. (zero likelihood of anything good)

[personal profile] emberserker 2020-08-06 04:34 pm (UTC)(link)
[At least Magnum Opus' outfit seems somewhat more practical than this one. Still, though, Wolfsbane seems confident in it, holding up her glowing halberd... just pretend it's human-sized and not mech-sized, okay.]

I suppose most wouldn't. I remember a tournament of sorts, but it was only for -- [She rapidly spins the pole of the axe in her hand and then grips it with both to make a point.] -- a select few.
emberserker: Arrogant glare. (i'm the greatest)

weapon

[personal profile] emberserker 2020-08-06 04:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Are you sure that was made for human use? Because if you're going to be summoning an ARMANOX to go with it, that's just unfair.
schardynfreude: (so wash it all away)

It's -- well, imagine something like Kingslayer, but the size of a building with a human pilot inside. It's a magic construct. I remembered it recently.
schardynfreude: (Default)

[personal profile] schardynfreude 2020-08-06 05:04 pm (UTC)(link)
That...sounds quite incredible. I doubt I've the ability to do anything of the sort. Although, if it was the size of a building, I doubt this would be even a toothpick to it.
emberserker: Holding her magic crystal. (...)

[personal profile] emberserker 2020-08-06 05:05 pm (UTC)(link)
I suppose it would depend on the building. Seriously, how can you lift that?
