It's Vegas, baby! Oh wait, I already made that joke on the location page... With Esme's iron-fisted reign brought to an end and the Executors given time to take a very well-earned break, it finally comes down to descend to the next layer of Purgatory. Thankfully, with this being the group as a whole's second descent, things are a little less nerve-wracking this time around... maybe. Hopefully. ... Probably. Welcome to Avaritia. Feel free to use this arrival log to chronicle your initial misadventures in the Greed Layer of Purgatory. Veil's going to be checking out whichever banking tower she comes to first. Something about the way it stretches up into the sky makes her think it's something she should be exploring.

How will Veil be approaching the banking tower? Is her plan to just walk in or does she have another idea for getting in there?

Either way, her first pass will let her see that the Specters filing into the place all seem to be carrying passcards or ID cards of some sort which they tap against a sensor to the side of the door to let themselves into the building.

Wolfsbane's off to search the casino and judge people the entire time she's there.

Is she searching the casino for anything in particular, or just keeping an eye on the Specters?

[Medic is going to explore the Neon Graveyard. ...It's possible that she heard the word "graveyard" and got excited briefly before getting immediately disappointed that there weren't any corpses. But it's still kind of neat and pretty, so she might as well look around and have a nice time anyway.]

There doesn't seem to be anything of note here apart from all the sick neon signs, but she will get a little tin badge as a thank you for visiting that reads "I GOT LIT at the Neon Graveyard!". So I'd call that a success!

He's not entirely sure it counts as investigating but Ruin is sure going to be spending a lot of time in the casino. Mostly on floor playing black jack and smoozing but he will definitely be chatting up the bartender and waitstaff and such.

The waitstaff don't seem to have a huge amount of time for Ruin, though that's less out of any snobbery and more because they're exceptionally busy. It's kind of crazy to imagine that they have the time between them to cater to all these people.

The bartender seems a little more open to talking... though only so long as Ruin has the money to keep paying for extremely fancy and expensive drinks. Otherwise, he's not interested.

Any topics in particular he wants to pursue?

Chiron is going to be delighted by the theater - and of course attempt to get inside without paying because fuck dudes these guys don't trade in weird pocky flavors anymore and that's bullshit, just gonna warp on by security and blend into the crowd bye!

When Chiron warps past security, he'll hear both of the Specters who were standing on duty yell out in shock as he goes zipping by. At first it seems like the perfect crime, but then the second he takes more than a few steps into the building, the floor just... drops out from under him and he falls into blackness. It's kind of terrifying!!!

Thankfully, only a second later, he'll land with a bit of a thud in what looks to be a dirty back alley. It's a little disorienting but with a bit of looking around, it becomes clear he's been dumped out the back of the theater.

mona will go to the vault! she's not going to be sneaky about it, she'll outright ask if anyone can tell her about it in like a tour guide-y way. are there tour busses in dead vegas???

Mona will find, thankfully, that she can just go right in! While the outside of the vault looks sort of indimidating, on the inside it seems to be more akin to a run of the mill bank. Though by the size of the building's exterior compared to what she can access through going in the door, it's not hard to guess that there are big vaults somewhere in this building, just not anywhere she can see right now.

There are some bank tellers at their windows who seem happy to help her, though! They give her a lot of boring exposition about Banks, In General that Mona will find fascinating but I'm sure we would find excruciating. More excitingly, they offer her the chance to start an account at Fort Nyx, if she likes!

Monarch is going to stake out a banking tower (let's say whichever Veil isn't, to cover more ground) to try and figure out if there's a way he can sneak inside, or if anything beyond just comings and goings are occurring!

There doesn't seem to be anything super notable about the comings and goings, though if he's watching closely enough, he'll eventually notice that while Specters need their passcards to enter, they don't need them to open the door from the inside and leave.

What would Monarch's plan to sneak in be, and how would he go about executing (heh) it?

It takes a few days of pain meds and buying some sunglasses and earplugs before Lion dares try and come back, but when he does he starts looking around for actual employment. Hard Labor or bodyguarding play best to his skills, but he's not picky.

Lucky Lion gets picked up as a bouncer at the theater, for at least as long as he feels like showing up. All he needs to do is stand around and look particularly feral and escort out anybody who looks like they're trying to sneak in and/or cause trouble (looking at you, Chiron). The wage isn't much, but it's better than nothing. Do your best, Lion!

One way or another, Beast, Chiron, Monarch, and Rei obtain tickets to the theater, whether through honest payment or cheating someone out of theirs with some well-worded bets. Team No Relation is a go. They are here. They are dressed in a way that is not awful, presumably. And they get inside hopefully without the floor opening up.

What do they see, is there anything weird or hinky going on in the lobby, are there snacks, do they get ushered to seats, slap us with some deets.

Very proud of y'all for actually getting yourselves tickets instead of crime-ing your way into the place. Know what that is? Growth.

Anyway, the inside of the lobby is pretty much as over the top and grand and regal as you'd expect from the outside. The colours are predominantly reds and golds and everything just feels Expensive, which makes the ticket prices feel slightly more justified. But not much. There's a massive concession stand selling all manner of sweet and savory snacks (DO NOT LOSE BEAST HERE) and some screens on the walls showing slideshows of the troupe's previous performances.

There's a respectable crowd of Specters milling around and waiting for things to get started, with some of them huddled together in groups, chattering and laughing. Nothing... seems out of place... not yet, anyway.

Monarch has some good ideas for how to investigate at work without getting himself trapped in an Escher stairs banking tower, thanks to consulting his fellow Executors!

Although he will still move money here and there as told by his employers, he's started to spend a large amount of his time looking into Vault #0. By looking at transfer history et al, he's hoping to discover:

1) When was it opened
2) Is there any record of which employee helped open it (since the account holder is a Secret)
3) Whether other accounts were opened at the same time, or otherwise, when it was opened in comparison to the bulk of other accounts
4) Whether there's any pattern or regularity to the deposits in addition to the ones that are made to keep this vault The Richest
5) How often anybody encroaches on that forbidden 20% of wealth - and whether he can find information about their names
6) Whether any other feature of it is unusual compared to an "average" bank account

These are all very good questions! Let's see if we can't get our boy some good answers.

When it was opened: The dates on the account are a little wonky thanks to time being so fucky in Purgatory, but it definitely seems to have been opened relatively recently in comparison to some of the other accounts. There are one or two other accounts that were opened around the same time, but they seem to be unconnected.

Who opened it?: The employee name is absent, which is odd because there is at least one employee name on every other account so far.

Any patterns in the deposits?: None that can be gleaned at a glance.

How often does anyone approach the 20% limit?: Not particularly often. Vault #0 has a lot of money so it's very rare for anyone else to get close. He can track down account numbers but looking for names of anyone who's had money skimmed would take more time and effort.

Any other weirdness?: None aside from what's been mentioned so far.

SO NOW THAT WE KNOW WHO SHE IS Lion will be doing his best to watch Greta any time she's at the theatre and sniffing around for info on her with the other staff.

For a couple of days after Achilles' confrontation with her, Greta does not show up at the theater which is probably understandable. Her presence isn't noted as being overly unusual by anybody but they do make sure to make a bit of a fuss of her when she finally returns again.

Greta seems a little bit on edge for her first visit, as if she's waiting to be found by another Executor but if nobody confronts her, she will eventually relax and return to what passes as normal behavior for her.

Any sort of info in particular he's looking to find?

[ Achilles tries to stay away from Avaritia for a bit but eventually he gets a little antsy and finds himself down there again, trying to see what else he can find. (and also some food to bring back)

He’s at the casino now, looking around for anything that could be useful (and what games... he might potentially be okay at because if they go through with this he will likely be on this side of the plan since Greta knows him). He’s not actively looking for a butterfly but IM putting him here to look for a butterfly SO.... ]

He's been doing a little bit of poker among the black jack rounds off and on since the first meeting but now that they've held a second and have a name and a lot more to go on? Now his hours at the casino begin to run a little later into the evening and the first chance he gets to buy into a high roller's poker game he does. Still every bit the over confident flirt but he's careful and strategic about the game underneath the philanderer facade.

He might not be able to count cards for this but people can be a lot easier to read than a stack of cards.
